July
Yesterday, after my party was over the boys helped clean up and then went on their way, I thought that was it. My moments with Dalton were over until I opened the door the next day and he was standing there. He was in all black, including black eyeliner and black nail polish. When our eyes met he lit up like a light bulb, but then he says, "Is your dad home?" And I'm completely thrown off.
I shake my head at him, "Who?"
She smiles brighter, "Your dad? I need to talk to him quickly."
I open the door and step aside allowing him to walk past me, "Umm, yeah? Why do you need him?"
"What did you think I was here for you?"
I mean, yeah? "I can't say I was expecting to hear those words to come out of your mouth." He laughs as I lead him into my dads den.
"Actually your dad and I are in love, we plan to be married within the year."
"You're so weird."
After ten minutes of me pacing in front of the door, Dalton comes back up the stairs. "All set," he smiles and grabs my hand.
I yank it away from him, "What do you mean?"
He doesn't take my hand again but instead puts it in his pocket, "I'm taking you out on a date."
I feel a smile form on my face, then I realize I'm still in my pajamas. I run a hand over my hair, "I'll just be a second." Then I bolt up the stairs so I can quickly get ready.
I sent a quick text to Tori freaking out and then yank my hair into a bun, rip my legs into some shorts and pull a shirt over my head. I don't look exactly how I'd want to on a first date, especially with someone like Dalton, but this is probably as good as I'll get. I run some eyeliner around my eyes, just enough to not feel or look as dead, as I did just a few minutes ago, and then force my feet into my gym shoes. I decide not to look at myself in my mirror because I'd rather pretend I look fine.
Dalton is waiting for me and I didn't want him to have to wait any longer. I push the thought that he saw me in my pajamas out of my head and try to walk slowly down the steps.
I swallow when our eyes meet and he smiles. Could this be the guy who thinks I'm beautiful when I'm sweating? 'Stop' I tell myself. 'He's a rock star, he's seen millions of girls.'
"Ready?" He asks offering me his hand. All I can do is nod, because Dalton freaking Beckett is taking me out.
"This is probably the coolest place in the whole world." Dalton is looking at the shelf of books as we wait for a table.
"I have to agree. I think most people thought Woody was nuts when he told everyone what he wanted to do. But here we are, and its a success."
"Do you eat here often?"
I shake my head. "We don't go out for dinner much. We order in, but don't go out."
"How come?"
"Parents." I didn't go into details, and I was thankful when he nodded and changed the subject.
"Have you ever read 'The giver'?"
"Of course! We read it in English. I was the first one done."
"I would say 'me too' but I was homeschooled so being the 'first one done' didn't happen much. I finished it before everyone else in the band though."
I smile, "So you can still say you were first."
He shrugs, "I guess. 'Of mice and men'?"
"Ugh, I cried. Also finished first."
