(The entire finale is 8,967 words long. It's split up into two parts. The second part is longer than the first but hey, it's a finale, what'd you expect?)
The sound of thunder was everywhere
The pounding sounds of hoof beats against the ground
The rhythm of her strong legs pushing us forward
Looking into the stands of hundreds of people
Everyone cheering for us
Around the first barrel
Cleared
Sprinting to the next barrel
Cleared
Then the third...
Cleared
Cheers
Meadows happy neigh
Louder thunder claps
Heavier pounding of her hooves
Stronger rhythm from her legs
A loud...gun shot?
That's not usual
Then...I'm flying through the air...
I look to see meadow standing back up
Ears pinned back
Fear in her eyes
People running to check on me
Meadow falling and neighing in pain
Then silence...
"Come on babe, we have to get ready"
I rolled over to see Jonah standing there with some water. I took a deep breath and wondered about the water
"...whats the water for?" I asked
"We both know you aren't a morning person..." he answered smiling
"...were you really going to pour that on me?" I asked still half asleep
"Yeah, we have to get up. The rodeo is a four hour drive away" Jonah explained
I looked at the clock
"It's 3:40 in the morning, the rodeo is four hours away and I don't run until 5 tonight. What's the rush?"
"Cyryn, we both know that you'll want to see the arena and walk through it and work Meadow out early so she can stretch and then rest and then you'll want to take a nap before your run so you need a lot of time"
"I hate that you know me so well" I laughed and got up
"But you also love it" he smiled and kissed my cheek
"I have to call Christina and wake them up"
"I already did!" Jonah said leaving his room
"...dammit! Why do you have to be so perfect?!" I complained
