The sound of my pointless phone alarm going off that morning was irritating.
Why did I stay up till two last night? When I knew the first day of sixth form was the next day?
If someone had told me I was excited for the first day of school I would of thought they were absolutely bonkers, almost sinking into the category of being dropped on their head as a baby, but then again, here we are.
Finally, the start of higher education, where you actually get to choose your subjects, one more step to university and of course the amount of free lessons I'd get, giving me lots of time to find out and discuss the latest gossip with my best friend, Christie.
Now, Christie, you can say she's one of a kind almost, the only girl you'll ever meet that obsesses over a toby carvery, more than how she looks on a daily basis. She's the outgoing one they say, but she's also the one that keeps me from doing impulsive things, that she knows that if I went through with it, I'd never leave the darkest depths of my bed and never ever get out again, but that's just us, Christie and Beth. Sure, I had other friends, but they didn't matter, we were just Christie and Beth.
By the way, if you didn't quite get the memo by now, I'm Beth, short for Bethany.
The knock on my door made me groan in annoyance.
"I'm up!" I called.
"Okay, just checking." My mother's voiced pierced through the walls of my bedroom.
I hopped out of my bed, and glanced at the brand new uniform sitting on my desk chair, laid out the night before. I smiled.
Is it weird that I'm excited that I have a new uniform? Yes, yes it is.
After slipping into the new uniform, curling my hair and making my face look like I only had not only had five hours sleep, which I actually did have the night before. Oops.
"Excited? My mum questioned.
"Nah, it's just another school year" I tried to play off coolly, even though my smile gave it away. My mum gave me a look. "Okay, maybe a little bit." She laughed.
Packing my bag was easy.
What do you need on the first day? Just some pens and notepad I guess? Not as if I need sports kit or anything.
The day I dropped PE was the happiest day of my life. I mean I could do sports, but I guess I just choose not too? It just wasn't my thing. I was more of the sit in the back reading my book, not the ambitious lets go for a run or play a game of rounders type of girl. Plus, PE was just a reason for all the popular girls, to pull their shorts so far up their arses, as every boy in our year walked past, in hopes of one lucky fella actually taking a notice in them. I mean it did work most of the time, considering they were the girls who got invited to the parties, we hear the gossip on, on a Monday morning during form. I personally wasn't a fan, of any of that, if I take a liking to a boy it sticks, a blessing but also the worst thing to happen if that guy doesn't take any notice of you, you might as well be invisible.
I mean if you got out there, maybe you'd be noticed?
Nah, too much effort if you ask me, I keep telling myself,
If they don't like me for the person I am, then it's there loss.
Again, what I keeping telling myself.
I wonder when I'll start believing it aha.
Breakfast was nothing out of the ordinary, I had toast, if any of you were wondering, with heaps of butter, of course.
"Have a good first day!" my mum called, as I was making my way out the door. The walk to the bus stop was ever so exciting not. The waiting for the bus stop even worse.
We must have a new bus driver to be taking this long
Finally, after what felt like hours of waiting, the bus finally arrived.
The large blue coach came towards us. It was the same as last year and the year before that and that again. You'd think in all my time at being at this school, which is 5 years by the way, that we'd get an upgrade, but no, still stuck with the same bus, that I had grown use to after all these years. Making my way onto the bus, I greeting the bus driver with a smile before making my way to the back of the bus.
Sixth form privileges'
Since being on this bus for a whole of five years, I have never been able to sit at the back of the bus, I have to admit I feel a little special now I must say. Seeing, my fellow bus buddy, Dylan sitting at the back was no surprise.
He got like all A* at GCSE, would you be really surprised he came back
I chuckled to myself, and sat down. We barely spoke, me and Dylan. The odd occasion on the bus home, where we'd speak about some of the gossip of the year, or him commenting how I never went out or was sociable, yeah we had a weird.. friendship? If you could even say that. The bus started moving with a jolt.
Definitely a new driver
Plugging my headphones in and tapping for the most recent Ariana Grande song. I began gazing out the window.
Three more stops
Two more stops
One more stop
My breath started to accelerate. I would have to see him. My breathing deepened as the bus door opened,
Of course he would be last on
I thought, as I mentally rolled my eyes. I waited, my breathing fastened to the point where it felt like I had just finished the London marathon. He wasn't there.
Maybe he dropped out
Maybe he drives now and if going in that way
Maybe he's ill
Thoughts ran through my head, as I tried to not look disappointed that he wasn't there. I gazed out the window, trying to forget him.
Why's the point?
But even Ariana Grande running through my ears wouldn't let me.
