For all of the ominous stories that were told of Yggdrasil, it was a quiet and peaceful planet.

The great ash tree that bore its namesake swayed silently in the wind. The dew from its leaves fell into the pools lying at its base. The nearest star's rays shone on the surface of the water, and Yggdrasil's roots could be seen snaking under the clear surface.

Three cloaked figures sat around the tree.

One sat hunched over, her fingers working at a bundle of threads, weaving them together into a complex tapestry. Occasionally, she would glance over at a nearby strand before adding it to her work.

Another sat near Yggdrasil's trunk with her hood hanging low over her face, carving into the wood. The markings glowed under her touch before becoming etched into the tree forever.

The third sister sat by the pools, watching the dew drops fall into the water.

Her head suddenly turned up toward the sky, and her eyes scanned the blue expanse. Just as a small smile spread across her features, the ash tree behind her started to tremble. Ripples coursed across the disturbed surface of the pools.

A burst of light shown in the sky, growing into a stream that slowly descended on the planet.

"She's here." The woman by the pools stood to her feet and turned to the hooded Norn. "Just as you had foretold, sister."

The other Norn—the weaver—set her tapestry to the side, also standing to her feet.

"The Harbinger," she said, craning her neck to watch the light of the Bifrost grow closer.

The hooded woman seemed less impressed than her sisters, turning instead to the tree of Yggdrasil.

"That means the time has come," she said.

She reached out and placed a hand on the trunk. The runes in the wood glowed a fiery red.

The time had come.

For the twilight of the gods.

For death.

For Ragnarok.
