The Crossing, as the inmates have called it, is a plot of grass (twice as long as the courtyard but not as wide) which prisoners are escorted across to get either to the medbay or the assembly hall.
The Crossing is named such because some inmate who cross here to get to the medbay never come back. About seven chain-link gates separate the length of the Crossing so that prisoners can't escape. As the prisoners cross through the gates, gates are shut behind them, so the only way is forward.
