"Nothing." I mumbled unclearly into my pillow.
He gives me a look which shows he doesn't believe me.
"Girl problems." I murmur.
"Right." He replies obviously not believing anything I say."Anyway, there's pizza and ice cream downstairs if you want?"
I lifted up my head from my pillow and look at him with teary and swollen eyes. His facial expression visibly morphes into disgust before he coughs to cover it up as he takes in my messy appearance.
"Really?" I say.
"Mhm." He cleared his throat, looking away.
"Can you get them for me? 'Cause I don't want to look like this in front of other people." I mutter.
"Sure." He says with a grimace.
With that he leaves and I'm much more happier than i was before. Just waiting for my food.
Period mood swings, am I right?
. . . . .
It was late at night when I quietly tiptoed down the stairs. The sky outside was pitch black and so was downstairs. I hurriedly turned on the light in fear there was someone lurking in the dark.
I cautiously tiptoed to the kitchen, then looked inside the refrigerator for more chocolate and left over pizza. I took the box of left overs and put it in the microwave, munching on a bar of chocolate while waiting for it to reheat.
"Hey." A voice suddenly said, scaring me and causing me to accidentally drop my chocolate bar.
"Damien." I sighed in relief.
"Sorry." He apologised before walking closer to me.
"What's up?" I asked awkwardly with a tight-lipped smile.
"Oh, you know, the usual. I couldn't sleep." He shrugged. "I figured I could use a midnight snack or two."
"Oh." I said, nodding.
We fell into and awkward silence, the only sound came from the microwave that was making a low humming noise. The silence was later on broken by the sound of the microwave beeping.
"Would you like some?" I offered and he nodded.
"Yeah, thanks." He said as I handed him a hot piece of pizza. "So, new guy?"
I shrugged, taking a bite out of the pizza. "We're friends."
"Cool." He nodded. "Why were you crying - at school?"
"I was?" I muttered, looking away from him.
"Ella, I saw you. Your eyes were all puffy and your nose was red." He mentioned.
"Wow, that was really attractive." I mutter sarcastically.
"Ella." He said, his voice serious.
"I'm on my period." I shrug.
"Oh." He turned slightly red.
"Yeah." I nodded. "Oh."
Boys are so fragile. Just mentioning you're on your period would make them get all flustered and uncomfortable.
"How's your wrist?" He asks, pointing at my now bandaged wrist.
"I went to the nurse's office after school earlier. She just told me to put some ice on it." I frowned realising how stupid that sounds. "It's fine. I told Ash about it and he helped out."
"So, you have a girlfriend now." I asked but it sounded more like a statement.
Oh, I have hurt myself once again.
"What? Oh, yeah. Yeah, she's cool, I guess." He shrugged.
"Just cool?" I questioned.
"I mean . . . well, what do you want me to say? She is pretty and stuff, you know?" He says and I nodded, pursing my lips.
"Yeah, yeah." I nodded, again with the tight lipped smile.
"Hey, can I ask you a question?" I asked.
He nodded as he took a bite of his pizza.
"Would you care if I were to date someone? Someone cool, of course. You know, like, I don't know, maybe Jack? Kevin? Eli?" I questioned.
He cleared his throat. "Of course I'd care, I mean, you- you're like a sister to me."
"Oh, please." I roll my eyes.
"What?"
"Nothing." I muttered, grabbing a juice box before heading for my room after saying goodnight to Damien.
