IMAGINE . . .

You were once a member of the Volturi a long, long time ago. You were Aro's most prized possession, your abilities rare and invaluable to him.

When Aro decides to change two twins who had been accused of being witches, you are completely against the idea and try to stop him, but your master sees potential and power in them. His greed makes his final decision, and he takes the twins, turns them, and brings them to Volterra.

You meet Jane, a pretty, porcelain-faced girl who was the kind of person you'd normally overlook and dismiss. But there was something about the way her crimson eyes gleamed, or maybe it was how her lips quirked up in the corners when she found something amusing and refused to laugh out loud. Or maybe, it was because you had found your mate.

For years, the two of you were happily, but privately in love. And then, as the centuries passed, you began to see more and more that the Volturi was cruel and injust and wrong. You began to feel like you didn't belong there, but when you asked Jane to run away with you, she immediately refused, baffled at why you - or anyone - would ever want to leave.

So, you did the hardest thing you've ever had to do in your immortal life: you left your mate behind.

Life was comprised of dodging the Volturi's constant attempts to capture and retain you, as well as trying (and failing) not to think about your beautiful Jane.

But then, when you join the Cullen clan in facing off against the Volturi to prove their innocence, you see her from across the field. She sees you, and there's a fleeting moment where something like joy and relief and maybe even love appears in her eyes. And then they go cold, and she lifts her head higher, the corners of her lips tilting up into a short smirk that was anything but friendly.

No longer the sweet, beautiful, kind Jane you knew. No longer the girl who recited love poems and quotes to you in the midnight hour. No longer your Jane. Just a cold, cold girl who was nothing like the one you used to know.
