Our eyes met. She had a glare in her eyes, and I didn't fail to shoot one back at her. The only thing that tore my eyes away from her was when I felt a hand on my thigh. James.
It made me feel uncomfortable at first, however once i realised he wasn't moving it any time soon I learnt to get comfortable with it. Emily had stopped glaring at me in Hatred by now since my dad mumbled her name and told her to sit down.
Luckily she didn't sit anywhere near me, meaning that this evening couldn't have got any worse than it already was.
In fact I even felt butterflies due to James. But he was just doing it to comfort me, right? But then again he would have moved it by now...instead he was rubbing his thumb against my jeans in a comforting way.
Surprisingly it didn't make me uncomfortable again.
Once my mother had dished out everyone's food, which I didn't feel hungry enough to eat due to all the stress of today, James hand moved. I watched him slice into his lasagne with his knife, making my hands tremble slightly as they gripped the cutlery.
"Aren't you going to eat?" Dad questioned me, more in a tone of voice that said 'start eating you idiot'. I felt weird eating infront of people, especially now I knew they defiantly could all see me if they wanted to.
He widened his eyes at me a little more, causing me to look back at my food and begin cutting into it slowly.
The first mouthful was the scariest. I hadn't eaten lasagne in a long time and I didn't even know if I'd like it enough to get it down me. However after chewing and swallowing, and replacing a full fork to my mouth, I had no reason not to eat.
It actually tasted good and my parents and James parents were too involved in conversation.
Emily was keeping herself to herself, and James was eating silently beside me. I didn't want to start a conversation, and I think he felt the same. However he did glance over at me, and mouthing 'are you okay?'. I nodded at him and gave a small smile...
The dinner went quickly after that. Emily was first to leave and said her goodbyes almost immediately after everyone finished their food. Then James father said he better get going too, yet he still sat gabbing away to my parents for another 20 minutes after that.
James and I excused ourself and I was about to show him to my room when I heard my mother call me.
"Yes?" I replied turning my gaze to her.
"Lounge" she pointed, clearly not wanting us to be upstairs alone together.
Yeah, we were totally going to fuck. Note the sarcasm.
We sat on a couch together, leaving a small gap between us. It was awkward at first, however we soon started talking openly to one another allowing ourself to get into the conversation.
It wasn't long though before James and his father actually had to go. I stood at the door and waved goodbye to James, as to which his father chuckled. It made me blush before closing the door and turning around to see both my parents standing there.
They were just staring at me.
"What?" I questioned without any emotion. Right now I wasn't happy with either of them.
They glanced over at each other before my mother walked off shortly followed by my father. Before he began walking away he just said: "there's dishes that need washing. Get it done."
I really didn't want to, however it was my dad speaking. What if he abused me again? It's just a few dishes...washing them is better than being beat..
In fact it took a lot longer than I expected, however I finally got it all done. I ran to my room and closed the door before getting changed for bed and practically falling straight to sleep...
