Darling in the Franxx: Code Zero

Chapter 2 - First Mission

"You all need to defeat all those Klaxours coming close to our plantation. And make sure to protect your squad. Now move out." He said.

We all prepared to move. First it was me and 9'a then the rest of our squad. We all saw the incoming Klaxours and commenced for battle.

"Let's go 9's" He said. "Follow as the plan says so."

"Yes Captain!" Everyone on the 9's said.

Everyone begin to attack the Klaxours. Me and 9'a went towards the middle and struck the Klaxour and got its core taken out.

When we struck it, I got struck with a pain and a fragmented memory that looked familiar.

"Ahh!" I said feeling the pain in my heart.

9'a yelled and said: "My Lovely, are you alright?"

"What's happening 9'alpha" Code 005 and 003 said.

"Is everything alright over there, Gardenia" said Zero Two.

"No, we nee...." 9'a said before I cut him off.

"Augh.. Yes everything is fine. Get rid of all of these Klaxours!" I told everyone.

Everyone hesitated but listened to me and continued fighting.

"Are you sure you can do this my Lovely." He said.

I could tell from his voice that he was very worried.

"Y-yes let's keep fighting.... I'm... ugh.. fine." I told him, ignoring the nickname he gave me again.

He listened and we continued fighting, but each time we did destroy a Klaxour I kept getting the pain and fragmented memories from each one. We finally got the last one and then returned back to the base. We had put all the Franxx back and then got out of them.

9 alpha got out and then offered me his hand. I took it and stepped out of the Franxx. I let go of it and we both began to walk. He seemed like he was walking a bit faster than me but I didn't know it was because I was very weak. He began to ask me if I was alright.

"Are...you su.. your al...right..my lo...vely." He said but sounded like he was cutting out.

I could hear him but I barely could understand what he was saying. It was like the room was getting bigger and bigger and te exit was farther and farther away. We were walking towards the exit and that's when I fell and said: "9'alpha....".

I heard murmurs of voices that sounded like 9'a yelling and telling me to wake up. I then could hear Zero Two's voice saying: "Code Zero! Wake up! What's wrong! Code Ze...." And thats when everything went out.

A couple of hours later at night

I felt like I had been sleeping forever. I open my eyes and realize that I'm in a patient's room. I look around and see that I am the patient. I lift my head and look to find Zero Two and 9'a sitting and sleeping on both of my sides. Zero Two is laying on my hand and holding it, while 9'a is holding my hand and laying on the side of the bed while in his chair. I smile at them both and then remove my hands from them both. I then remove all the monitors and things that were on me without them making a noise. I removed the blanket from myself and then crawled out of the bed without moving Zero Two and 9'a. I took the blanket and wrapped it on myself and left the room. I head towards the exit that leads to the outside in the forest and towards mine and Zero Two's hideout. I wanted to try and clear my mind. I ran all the way to the edge of the forest to get to mine and Zero Two's hideout. I open up the entrance and go in and then closing the entrance. I didn't realize that I was being followed by someone that I didn't know of when I was going to my hideout. I sat inside and turned on the light with my power. I noticed that some things had been brought in her like some thread, a needle, a small pillow, a pencil and a book. I knew Zero Two had been in here. I used the needle and thread to make the pillow a cover. And then set up a spot with the blanket and wrapped myself in it. I grabbed the book and opened it. In it was a drawing that Zero Two drew of herself and me. I was amazed by her work. I smiled and enjoyed all of her art in the book. I decided to write our names above the picture she drew of us. Now it was complete. I put it next to me and then looked up at the top of the tree. I then got up and turned off all of the lights. I opened the entrance and then closed it again. I ran back towards the building and went inside. While I was running, I stopped and looked around. I sensed a pair of eyes on me and rustling in the trees. I knew it wasn't 9'a or Zero Two. It was someone that I didn't know. So I quickly ran inside, just in case it was dangerous.
