Nico's POV

It was just another day and they were preparing for a game of capture the flag. Armour was fastened and weapons were unsheathed. Nico spotted Will walking across the woods, laughing, his hair gleaming the whole way. Nico and Will were on different teams, which meant he saw Will even less then he ready did. Nico took out his black iron Stygian sword and examined it. It was as black and threatening as ever. Nico touched the point of the blade. It was beginning to go blunt, so he gave it a quick sharpening. It was in pretty good condition, considering what it had been through.

“NICO!” Percy shouted, interrupting his thoughts. “Stop looking at your sword and come help us figure out a plan.” Nico was glad Percy was on his team, but he could get annoying some times, sometimes he wondered how he ever had a crush on him. After a few, well alot of arguments and some compromising they finally had a decent plan for Capture the Flag.

The horn sounded and the game began. Nico crept behind a bush and watched the first group of demigods advance. Metal against metal. Fist against fist. After a few minutes he heard a faint owl sound, the next signal to advance. This meant all was going to plan. The enemy had been divided and now it was time to conquer. Nico readied his sword and prepared to advance. He was itching to go out and fight, both literally and metaphorically as the bush he was hiding behind was really itchy. He had no signal to tell him when to run in, just his instincts alone. Several minutes passed and Nico couldn't help thinking about Will.

Nico had just come out of the infirmary a few days ago and to be honest he wanted to go back. He always saw Will around and they might chat a bit, they had even become friends but it wasn't quite the same as when he was in the infirmary. You see while Nico was in the infirmary it was as if they were forced to be together, and Nico missed that.

He also missed Will's face being the first face he saw in the morning and the way Will's golden hair shone in the sunlight that came through the infirmary window. He especially missed how Will would sit at the end of his bed and they would just chat. Will had been so kind and caring and … no. Now was not the time for getting distracted. Nico imagined the others asking him why he didn't join in the fight, he couldn't exactly say that he was too busy thinking about Will.

Nico concentrated on his task ahead. He peaked out from behind the bush and saw Percy knocking demigods out left right and center. When Nico looked behind him he saw Clarrisse battling furious towards their flag, but she was soon stopped by the defense demigods. Nico waited until the battle cries had died down and crept out from behind the bush. He stretched out and looked around for attackers.

No-one was around. That was a good start. Nico snuck into the shadows. Will said he should really lay off the shadow traveling for awhile or he would be right back in infirmary. Which wouldn't really be a bad thing. Nico thought. But the infirmary would be full after Capture the Flag so Nico wouldn't be able to see Will either way. Ugh. Why couldn't he stop thinking about Will, it seemed like he was always on his mind.

Nico decided not to shadow travel, he figured Will was probably right to some extent about the whole you might die if you shadow travel again thing. Instead he quickly and stealthily tip toed towards the other groups flag. It was just when he could see the tip of the flag, when the leaves rustled behind them. He whipped around, sword in hand, looking for any sign of attack. Nico cursed silently in Italian. How could he have not noticed the lack of defense demigods, he had walked straight into an ambush.

More rustling. Nico advanced slowly, still brandishing his sword. Suddenly a familiar tanned face burst out the bushes waving their sword around , screaming. “Will?” For a moment Nico was so shocked and relieved that it was only Will so he lowered his guard. Then he realized that technically they were still enemies so he brandished his sword once again. “What are you doing here?” Will asked, staring at Nico's sword. What kind of question was that? Nico wasn't sure how to react so he put on a brave face and tried to look as threatening as possible. “I'm here to take your flag.” he announced.

Will laughed, which threw Nico off, and made him loose his threatening pose. “Yeah, ok sure thing mister darkness, and how do you plan on that?” Nico froze. He hadn't planned this far. He considered his options. Option one retreat. This was probably the easiest option as he could just run away, maybe he could even just hang back and wait for Will to leave and the swoop in and get the flag. The problem with this is that it would make him seem like a coward, and Nico was no coward.

Second option was convince Will to give him the flag. Nico's debating skills weren't that good and this was still sort of an ambush so it didn't leave him much room to compromise. Plus it wasn't like Will was just going to hand over the flag. Last and final option, fight Will for the flag. Nico looked at Will. Will looked completely relaxed, was smiling and was in no position to fight. I mean sure Will was quite a bit taller than him, but Nico was sure he could knock him out if he wanted.

Then what was he waiting for? Nico looked back at Will. His startling blue eyes and golden hair and a face that was probably sculpted by the gods themselves. No, he couldn't attack Will, Nico didn't know why but he couldn't bring himself to it. Nico dropped his sword. He had run out of ideas. “Will I…” His sentence was cut short by more rustling, but this time from all over the forest. “Thats not me this time.” Will joked, but his expression was soon filled with concern. Suddenly the rustling of a few leaves turned into a rough wind within several seconds.

Then the wind began to blow fiercely like a gale was blowing. The clattering of sword stopped as everyone stopped to see what was going on. Bushes and trees were uprooted and some whipped up into the tornado that was beginning to form. Nico looked around him and saw campers screaming and running.

Some brandished their weapons and prepared to fight, but there was nothing to fight. The wind intensified ever more (if that was even possible) Nico thought, and campers began to get whipped up into the tornado. Most of them were flung back out as soon as they were pulled in, but the damage was done.

Suddenly Will began to stumble backwards, towards the tornado. Without thinking Nico grabbed Will's hand and held him back. Will's eyes were full of fear as he was pulled closer and closer to the tornado. Nico held onto Will with both hands and dug his feet into the ground for support. He had lost so much in his life, he wasn't going to lose another friend. Nico concentrated so much, bony skeleton hands strung up from the ground and wrapped around Nico's feet to keep him from getting pulled in too.

The sky rumbled and rain poured down drenching everyone in range. A single voice was heard through the commotion, it seemed to be coming from the storm itself. Let's make this game a little more interesting, shall we? A deep laugh echoed through the forest. Nico recognised the voice immediately, Zeus. He was so suprised, for a single second he loosed his grip on Will. So many thoughts raced through his head. Then he remembered Will, but it was too late. Nico's heart nearly stopped when he saw Will being viciously pulled into the tornado.
