Chapter Seven

"You are so stupid!" Demi laughed at Joe. The two were having a canoe ride in the middle of the lake were they weren't visible to anyone. Today was one of their free days off of taping. She laughed at him since he had no idea which way is back to camp.

"I wasn't the one who didn't bring the map." He said looking at her.

She giggled, "You don't need a map Joe." He chuckled. "I've never seen this side of you." Demi said seriously.

"Yeah, well I can be fun…unless you piss me off." Joe said retracting his hands from the oar letting the boat float still in the middle of the lake.

"Well, I could've seen this side of you if we got along better."

"I know, I'm just not good with apologies."

"But you did it so it's the past now." Demi smiled as Joe nodded. He started moving the boat to shore. "So you do know which way back." She giggled.

"I'd rather spend quite a while with you here than go back sooner." Joe smiled and so did Demi.

They were close to shore when Joe smirked. "What?" Demi asked. He started to lean on one side of the canoe. Demi's eyes widened and shook her head. "No, no, no, Joe stop!" She giggled, but it was too late. "Joe!" She squealed as she landed in the water and the canoe was upside-down. "I hate you!" She laughed splashing water on his face.

"What's going on?" Kevin asked who was passing by.

Demi got her act on and glared at Joe. "Mr. Jackass sent me in the water. You might think it's just a normal day of boating until someone turns your canoe over."

Kevin sighed and helped her get out of the water. Joe shook his head and pushed the canoe on shore. "He'll leave you alone sometime." Kevin said and walked away.

As soon as he was out of sight Demi laughed and pushed Joe. "What's your problem?"Joe chuckled and ignored her rhetorical question. He shrugged as he started walking Demi to her cabin. Demi's grin was plastered on her face. She walked inside and jumped slightly as she saw Anna and Alyson on their beds. They looked at her weirdly. "What?

"Why are you smiling like that?" Alyson asked. Demi giggled, but didn't answer. She walked to her luggage and got a pair of clothes out. "And why are you wet?"

"I fell from a canoe." Demi answered as Alyson shook her head.

After Demi got dressed, she met up with Joe behind The Cottage. Behind the cottage was a whole different view of the lake. There was a huge hill, but it's didn't cover the rest of the lake. You can see the sun glow in the sky. Demi sat down on the ground and leaned her back on the wood panels of The Cottage. Demi giggled a little as Joe picked on the leaves of a low branch from a tree.

"You know what's funny?" He asked as Demi shook her head. "I was actually very surprised when you talked to me calmly by the shore two days ago." He said picking an enormous leaf and sat down next to Demi.

"Truthfully, I knew you and Taylor broke up." She said as Joe looked at her then back to the lake. He sighed and played with the leaf he got. Demi answered his silent question that showed on his face."I was actually on my way to set when I saw you and Taylor behind one of the cabins and I overheard. I'm sorry for not telling you though." She looked outwards to the water now.

"It's hard. She said she's been meaning to break up with me a month after she was dating me, because that's when she received the fan letters."

"Well, Joe, it wasn't really her fault. It hurt her, too."

"I know." He said looking down and letting a tear drop.
