I looked out my window watching the beautiful city lights dancing around in the night as the rain fell lightly. My mind was overjoyed with the aesthetic pleasure it received from the neon lights burning brightly across the clouded black sky.
My focus drifted slowly, stimulated by the sudden movement of what seemed like a male running into an alley between a few shops across the street, and not long after, a group of men had flashed across equally as quick after the other male. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion mainly at the fact that this part of town wasn't know for having much of a problem with delinquents, let alone gangs.
A few seconds passed, the clock on the wall to my right signaled that action with each tick of its metallic black hand echoing through the silent condo. Lights from the flashlights, or the only thing I could assume they were from, danced across each of the walls. The men had been covered by the thick shadows blanketing the alley as the street light there just so conveniently did not work.
I kept my eyes trained on the place where I last saw the male hide, fear rush through my body pricking at my skin like small needles as my mind reeled in suspense causing goosebumps to rise. I could only imagine that for him.....getting caught seem like the worst case possible. He was probably a stray hybrid or a runaway that got called on. But either way I was going to help him.
I quickly raced across my bedroom and out the front door, the elevator might take too long but I'm also on the highest floor of the building and there are good 50 floors. I looked between the elevator in the staircase and quickly made my decision.
Slamming down the buttons as fast as I could, the elevator opened a few seconds later. Running in I press the lobby button and waited, once the doors open I ran as quickly as I could out the lobby and over to the alley. It seems that in the time I left my apartment and got down here, the group and found the poor hybrid and had him cornered.
What do I do? I can't exactly just waltz out there and be like oh hey sorry that's my hybrid you got there. And even then I've never owned a hybrid so I can't fake any papers. I'll just go out there and distract the group and make a really cool get away and bring the hybrid back to my place and hopefully it'll be all good.
I walked up into the alley and towards the group of men. The low growl and hissing could be heard from where I was, but was slowly being drowned out by the laughter and taunts of the men.
"Look at this piece of fucking filth, we've chasing your ass for weeks you ugly stray and now we've got you right where we want you, ain't that right boys." And ugly raspy voice cold out. He took one step forward and the hissing got louder.
I need to act now, but what distraction can I make when they've got him cornered?
Fuck it.
"Excuse me? Hey sorry but that's my hybrid you've got there." My small voice ring out in the newly formed silence
