I don't lift my eyes from the book. "Huh? What do you mean?"
"Well." Freya says and I look up. "He never hates people that much unless you do something to really pisś him off."
"And?"
"Well-"
Freya is cut off when Avery comes charging into the dorm. "Ace is back!" She shouts and throws herself on the floor panting.
"What?!" Freya and Charlie shout in unison.
"Ace. Is. Back. I just saw him walking back into the school." Avery chokes out.
My curiosity gets too much. "Whose Ace?"
"Ace is the third best friend. There's always been three. Ace. Hunter. And Toby. Then there was this big fight between Ace and Toby, there was blood everywhere. And anyway Ace left, we all thought we would never see him again!"
"What did they fight about?" I question.
"Nobody knows! I don't think even Hunter knows!"
"And he's back?"
"Yeah. I wonder what's going to happen between him and Toby?"
"I don't know, but now I want to know." I whisper.
"We'll probably find out tomorrow."
"Yeah." I nod.
—————
Once all the girls are asleep I get up, pulling off the dressing gown that's hiding the fact that I'm fully dressed. I know it's cold outside so I grab a jacket before heading out.
Unfortunately all the dorm rooms have alarms in the doors, so I can't go out that way, Freya accidentally let that slip earlier.
I open the window and stare out. I'm only one floor up, so falling wouldn't be too bad. I climb out and sit on the ledge, before slowly lowering myself over the edge and grabbing the drainpipe. I shimmy down exactly like I used to at Auntie Rosa's, and once I get to the bottom I smirk in satisfaction.
"What are you doing out here." A voice whispers from behind me, I spin around.
"I could ask you the same thing." I see the outline of a figure, a very tall figure, Taller than Toby, In fact probably taller than most people. I would say around 6:4, Toby's 6:3 so it would make sense.
"Good deflection, now answer the question."
"Erm. Ah. Uh. Um. I was hungry."
"So you came here. What were you planning to eat? Leaves?"
"Don't be mean. I'm not a giraffe. I came out here to think. Now you tell me your answer."
"I know your not a giraffe, you wouldn't be so short if you where."
"Whey hey! I'm tall for a girl. Now answer the question!"
"And obviously very loud for a girl."
"Answer. The. Question."
"I came out here to sing."
"Like an owl. Wait. What?"
"I was joking, I'm staying away from my dorm until I can get a new one tomorrow."
"Why?"
"You're new aren't you."
"Yah."
"And British."
"Yah."
"Ok cool."
"Yah."
"So..."
"Get on with the story you banana!"
"I would. But it's more fun to let you find out yourself." I hear the smirk in his voice.
"What's your name." I demand.
"What's yours."
"Superwoman. Now what's your name?"
"Batman."
"Unfair!"
"What is?"
"The moon is reflecting off my face so you can see me but your in the shadows so I can't see you!"
"I know. I thought about it."
"When?"
"When I was watching you climb down the side of the building."
"Uhhh."
"Now go get your sleep superwoman. I have a feeling that there'll be a pop quiz tomorrow."
"No fair! How do you know that?!"
"Not telling. Go to bed." I can hear the smirk in his voice. Grumbling to myself I turn around and grab the drainpipe. "Don't fall." He calls.
In a totally me fashion I answer with a: "for me." And then fall.
He catches me, his strong arms bringing me in close to his body "Well. You fell for me so it would only be fair." He whispers, laughing.
I slap him in the face in an attempt to regain at least some of my dignity and quickly scramble back up the drainpipe, cursing myself for my clumsiness.
