Chapter 1: Geek vs Nerd

Do you know what bothers me so much? When people can't tell the difference between a geek and a nerd. Yes, they're two separate species!

Now a geek is that girl in the background who is anti-social. She doesn't get into the latest classroom debate (although she wants to; she's just too afraid to.), she doesn't raise her hand (she would. She just can't stand the looks she'll get.), and she definitely does not defend herself when the populars tease her. She loves Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, The Hunger Games, and all that good stuff. She absolutely hates gym, physical education, and P.E. (yes, she realized that those are all the same thing!). Secretly she hoards vintage comic books in her locker because if she left them out in the open at home, who knows what could happen to them?

Putting aside her quirky and weird habits, she human. Mainly. She's 5% Vulcan, but human from head to toe.

But then there's nerds. They're the Alphas of the nerd/geek Clan. They're a more self confident version of a geek. They speak their minds and love classroom debates (does the debate club ring a bell?). They tend to stand up to the populars, even if it gets them no where. They happen to be more open about their obsessions and fandoms. From Star Wars to Star Trek, if it's been released to the public, they know about it.

And how exactly do I know all of this? Because I'm one of them. I'm a geek.

This might surprise you if you know who I am. If you don't know who I am- well we've got a lot to get through. I'm Audree Skinner, robot Vulcan princess and Dungeons and Dragons expert. May the Force be with you.

Does my name ring a bell? No? Then let me give you a small glimpse into my life.

Everyday I wake up, eat an amazing, delicious, and nutritional breakfast of Fruity Pebbles, put on a short, tight, and skimpy outfit (always in the shade of bubble gum pink), and head to my kingdom called High School. Boys drool over my ginger hair, skinny legs, and perfect figure.

My life sounds glamorous, right? Well it's not. I was sort of forced to be a popular. They just assumed that because I was so pretty, I would fit in with them. After that, I threw away the pocket protector, taped up glasses, and geeky act. I got my ears pierced and got contacts. I even considered getting a nose piercing! But I had to keep one thing about me the same. Even nerds wear pink! I usually wore pink every day, but my clothing wasn't as revealing as it is now. And I still chew gum since that one day in first grade.

So this is me. But behind this nose job is a secret I've sworn not to tell anyone. Although you see me at Preston High, gossiping, texting, and checking myself out in the mirror, I'm more than that.

I'm a secret bubble gum loving geek.

Girly Girl by day, Geek by night. Surprise, much?

Secretly I've managed to over the years enter the science fair twice, go to a very public book signing, check out all of the Star Wars books in the library, and even sometimes sneak in very clever movie references when talking to my friends (like they'd notice, anyways).

This is kind of a touchy subject, but it's just you and me, so... I guess I was too afraid to show people the real me, so that leads me to how I am now. According to everyone at school, I'm a player. It surprises me so much how many things around Preston High are fake. I promise you, I'm not a player, nor will I ever be. I've never had a boyfriend, and I'm not sure if I'm ready yet. Most people think I'm a daring girl who knows no limits, but I actually listen to my parents, get VERY good grades, and am very careful in what I say and do.
