Anacleta - Tammy

“Liam, have you seen Anacleta?” I question out loud when I can’t find her in the room. I refuse to call it cage or crystal box. It’s her little room and the flat her home.

I walk into the living room to find Liam on the sofa, with the control in his hand as he’s trying to decide what we’ll watch on Netflix.

“No idea, babe,” he replies not even looking in my direction. I don’t even think he’s heard what I said.

“Help me find her? Ray’s parents will drop him later today and you know he loves playing with Anacleta. You won’t make him look for her, right?” I insist going to him and standing in front of the TV so he can look me in the eyes.

“Tammy, you know your spider gives me the creeps. I won’t go looking around for her,” he replies and cue to his words he shivers. I smile at that.

“Tarantula,” I specify and he rolls his eyes. “C’mon! Help me. We’ll find her faster if we look together. Please?” I try with my sweetest tone but he just moves so he can see the screen. “Liam, if I find her I’ll put her on your face when you’re sleeping.”

Liam looks at me with horror in his eyes and even if I try to remain serious I can’t help it, I laugh at him and his reaction. How can a grownup man be scared of a cute little tarantula? Anacleta is the sweetest, not some terrifying monster.

“Tammy, really, why do you have to have a tarantula as a pet? Couldn’t you get a cat or some creature from hell? Why a tarantula?” he questions with a heavy sigh.

“’Cos she’s cute and cool as fuck,” is my reply and he looks defeated.

“No, I won’t help. She’ll attack me and kill me. No.” Now I roll my eyes because Liam is just being a coward.

Fine, if he won’t help then I’ll find her on my own and I will never let him play with my Anacleta. He’ll regret later. So I leave him there, completely alone, and go searching for my little girl. The bad part about having a tarantula is that I can’t hear whatever noise she makes and she won’t come up when I call her. No matter how many times I call her name, she won’t come running like a dog. I wonder if I can train a tarantula, though.

After almost an hour I still can’t find her and I give up. It’s not the first time she decides to wander on her own. I leave her room always open so she can have fun outside. Eventually, she comes back alone so I guess this time it’ll be the same. When Ray arrives I’ll have to tell him that Anacleta went to have fun on her own because she felt rejected by Liam.

But when I walk back in the living room I find her. “Liam! You should’ve told me you found her,” I say and he looks at me confused. He was too engrossed on the film on the telly. He actually started watching without me. “Anacleta, she’s on your shoulder,” I explain and all blood drains from his face, his eyes widen in horror and he flies like in one of those cartoons.

“FUCKING HELL, TAKE IT OFF TAKE IT OFF!” he shouts, shaking his whole body even when Anacleta jumped away the moment he moved.

Liam keeps jerking and shivering, running to me and actually hiding behind me.

“Where is that monster?” he asks, still hiding behind me.

“On the sofa. Liam, you’re such a pussy. Really,” I say and he lifts the hands he kept on my shoulder until then. “She won’t eat you alive, you know?”

He doesn’t reply so I turn to face him just to find him blushing furiously, at which I of course laugh out loud. I can’t believe this big boy is so scared of my little Anacleta. Still laughing, I grab his face in my hands to make him look me in the eyes.

“Don’t worry, I’ll protect you, you cry-baby,” I say and he gives me that puppy look I still can’t believe I love. I stand on my tiptoes and kiss his lips shortly. “Now let me put her back in her room so you won’t have a heart attack.”

“Thank you,” he says and I chuckle again, giving him one last kiss before going for Anacleta. I can’t believe my boyfriend is still scared of my baby, but oh well, even if he’s a scaredy-cat I still love him.
