Elina

The thumping music within the club was starting to take its toll, especially when combined with the strong drinks my best friends kept buying me. When I was drunk, I had this habit of picking up random guys and dancing with them, sometimes it lead to taking them home.

Tonight, I was determined not to let that happen.

Behind me, the hanging coloured lights swayed perfectly in time with the music booming through the club. The numerous party goers escaping their normal lives filled the dance floor in front of me, which also consisted of my friends, girls who held respectable jobs but decided to let loose like they did every weekend.

To my left, a group of guys crowded around the bar, chugging down beers, chatting up girls who looked willing enough and making a general mess like guys do. To my right, opposite the seat I was on at the table we had taken over, my best friends were giggling about a guy who was sitting by himself just two feet away.

One of my best friends, Ava, nudged my arm. A huge grin covered her bright red lips.

"Eli, go talk to him!" she whined above the music. "He looks lonesome."

I turned in my chair to find him by himself, head down and picking at the label of a bottle in front of him. He looked more like he didn't want to be there than lonesome. I looked at Ava.

She smirked and nodded her head. "Go on."

Giving her a I'm-watching-you look, I got out of my chair and walked over to the guy's table. He lifted his head on my arrival and smiled.

"Feel free to take a seat," he said, nodding at the chair in front of me.

As I did, he pushed the bottle away and rubbed his jaw. His piercing blue eyes met mine and I found myself staring into them. It wasn't until one of the guys from the bar came and clamp a hand on his shoulder and give him a shake did our eye contact break abruptly.

"Jakey!" The new guy said loudly. "Bro, the guys and I are planning on hopping in twenty, you still up for this?" As a burp escaped his mouth, I forced myself not to stand up and leave.

Jakey, I believe his name's Jake, sighed. "The rest of you are drunk, I'm the sober one. Get me when you're ready to go."

The new guy nodded and released his shoulder.

"Also," Jake added, "Haven't I told you that you don't interrupt when I've got a pretty girl here?"

When both men's eyes landed on me I felt like hiding. My cheeks felt red and I avoided both their gazes. Curse being an easy blusher.

"Sorry, Carlin." The new guy slapped Jake's shoulder and grinned. "Forgot not to interrupt the J man and his moves."

When he winked at me, Jake glared while I bit my bottom lip to stop my mouth from falling open.

"Get out of here, you mutt." Jake said and the new guy snickered and ambled off in search of either a beer or a girl.

A sigh and Jake's eyes on me made me sit up right. It wasn't that I felt judged it was more because I felt self conscious. I hated eyes on me.

"Sorry about that," he said. He shook his head and shuddered. "Lets try this again, eh?"

He smiled at me again.

"I'm Jake, what's yours?" A hand held out in my direction felt friendly and I smiled back.

"Elina."

"I'm telling you, if it weren't for the rookies busting that door down we would have never found that stash." Jake paused, a bottle inches from his lips. "Actually. If it weren't for that idiot claiming he needed to go the toilet we wouldn't have found the stash."
