Sapphire ducked as it did so, startled at first. She watched as the lights subsided to a small flurry of glowing particles, Flounder nudging her shoulder, "See!! Harmless fun! And man oh man! Wont that be fun to prank Auntie with?" He gave a mischievous chuckle before dusting away the particles.
Sapphire on the other talon, looked highly unconvinced, "But if you can use it for 'good' cant you use it for evil as well?" She flicked her ears back at the deep look of hurt creeping into his eyes and said suddenly, "Not that you would of course! But.....b..."
"But I could get corrupted by this power? Is that what you're saying? That I'll become some monster and lose my mind or something!" He snapped with an agitated glance at her before looking at the sky with a sharp exhale.
"No! No! Of course not!" She stood up and put a wing over him, which he shook off. She swallowed softly before continuing, "I just don't want to see you or anyone else get hurt."
He didn't look at her, "Yeah sure. You know what?! You're all just sour cause you can't get me back when I prank you, or.....or you're all just jealous!" His gills flared in his short outburst before he gazed at his own talons muttering.
She tapped her talons together before laying one on his shoulder, "No....no...that's not it. I'm sorry... I should've just keep quiet...." She trailed off, her talon slipping off his shoulder as she stood up with a sigh.
Flounder gazed over at her and quickly said, "Nah...uh don't be. It's all good." He gave an apologetic smile and she returned one. "So, we all good....ack I'm sorry for snapping, Tunabreathe." He tried to crack a joke at the end showing his temper was gone and he held nothing against her. He really didn't know why he'd even snapped.
She was always just watching out for him.... His thoughts trailed off as she spoke again. His ears pricked lightly.
"Ha....yeah.....Jelly-brain!" She gave a smile and he broke out into a huge grin.
"Whatever you old toothless-one flippered-shark!" He gave a light chuckle before he caught the glimmer of unspoken words she seemed to wish to say. He sighed softly, "C'mon whatca gotta say, let's get it out and go home, deal?" He cast a glance at the sea behind them, then the sky, and looked back to her.
"Maybe, well maybe could take the magic out of yourself and like...."
"Like make it into a necklace or something?" He gave an amused laugh
"Well that's not a ba-"
"Wait for real!? No! Then how would I even use it?" He blinked at her, his snout wrinkled in distaste.
"Well you can make it into anything. Why not turn it into like something and take it out of yourself....just to be safe?"
"Pffff." He gave a dismissive wave of his talon.
"You can use it for anything still, can't you though? Make it into something else and take it out of yourself just to be safe! Just choose the right wording!" She nodded.
He gave a roll of his eye and gave smirk, "Yeah sure."
She didn't seem to catch it and looked over his face.
He then cleared his throat and spoke, "Yeah sure! All my magic take itself from me and form into a bloodthirsty Nightwing whom will eat magic from other dragons no matter anyone does to kill it!" He gave a wicked laugh, though the statement had all been said in a joking manner. Sapphire however found this horrid and shoved him looking terrified.
"Oh take a joke! It's not I mean...me-"
Suddenly Flounder gasped, his scales tingling as all his magic crept from out his talons.
He blinked and stumbled, though he was caught by Sapphire. The two heard what sounded as bone clicking together and gazed behind themselves in fear. The two saw a skeletal figure was beginning to rise, it seemingly forming from nothing but thin air. The two seawings stumbled back from this as flesh began to form over the body, skin soon creeping over it as well. Soon enough scales shimmered black as the bitterest abyss, nothing like the shades of dark green or blue that could be seen mixed in the coloration of the average nightwing. The beast raised its snout to the sky and opened its mouth, revealing horrid jagged fangs. Its eyelids peeled back to reveal eyes that were blood red where the normal eye would be white, and a ghostly blue in the center. The black pupils moved, surrounded by their crystal oceans as it looked around. Its black, forked tongue flicked out as he tasted the air. Flounder gave a whimper of fear and Sapphire stuck close frozen to the spot.
The two cold eyes darted towards them and the mouth arranged into a wicked smile, "Goodbye." Its voice rang out among the quietness of the falling night, emotionless and hollow. It took a deep inhale and shot its wings out. Soon within a few wing-beats, he was gone, swallowed by the night. Flounder and Sapphire looked back to where it had first risen and watched as the footprints were swallowed by the quiet waves that lapped at the beach. Then they fled back into the foam and spray, both horrified as the meaning of this came thundering down upon them. Flounder was shaking from wingtip to wingtip as they swam back to the safety of the seawing kingdom.
Little did he know what he'd released.
