The sky was clear, a setting sun filtered light across the sands of the fine beach. Several meters showed of the shell scattered beach until it grew into a jungle, a few seabirds roosted in some stray palms at the edge. The chatter of the residents of the island could be heard as they began to settle for the night, some birds giving soft cries as they returned to their nesting grounds.
The only strangers were the two beings whom had moments ago, dragged themselves out of the lively sea which they lived in. One was cracking a joke to his companion, though all she gave was a soft chuckle. This dragon's name was Flounder, his underbelly was an odd beige-sandy color which as they approached his main scales became a light baby blue. His eyes were very similar to this color though they had a ring of emerald if one were to look deep into his glimmering, playful eyes. His main scales were a darker version of this very color with odd blotched patterns here and there, his bio-luminescent scales were a soft white, while his webbing, horns, and wings were a deep set cobalt with an edging deep brown to the point of black. His wings were littered with the etchings of the patterns that marked him a lower member of the royal family of the time.
His friend, whom currently was drawing a claw-tip in the still sand, was a different story.
She carried a silent gaze along, her mouth only giving soft replies to Flounder's onslaught of jokes and jests. She was unrelated by blood, but had been taken into the family when her parents had died due to a sweeping illness years back. Her name was Sapphire, and it quite fitted the soft spoken princess. Her underbelly was a soft silvery-blue and it spread to her main scales before turning into a brilliant sapphire. Here it traveled along the most of body before turning into a quieter turquoise on her webbing and wing membranes. Her eyes and horns then took a turn to a dulling cobalt that wasn't as vivid as her adopted brother's. As well as not being a blood relative to the main stream of royals, her wings showed no evidence of the swirling marks seen on Flounder's.
Despite their physical differences, many would agree they had a close bond like that of a true brother and sister. During this day they were here to speak about something more then the constant jokes Flounder supplied those around him, but rather the power he held dangerously close to his soul. He had a reputation as using his magic to supply his own amusement sometimes, though not severe enough for the higher ranks of his family to be bothered. Many times a few voiced concern about this constant usage of magic, though long before the time of the Seawing Massacre, some still had worries about what were to happen if this magic were to be abused.
Flounder being known to cast aside these voices, had been requested by Sapphire for them to speak in private about something. Sapphire had brought him out her to voice her opinion to him, for despite having the princess ranking at her claw-tips, she still worried almost constantly about upsetting those she saw as higher then herself. She rarely communicated with any but Flounder, a few blood relatives, and some of her other adopted siblings. She usually only spoke if spoken to, but currently she wished to express her real concern for him.
The two paused to watch the sun drift down a bit more before one spoke up, this being Flounder. He gazed back at her and asked, "So what did you want to talk about that was so serious you couldn't just tell me at home?" He flicked an ear quietly looking her over trying to read her closed off expression.
"I just wante-" She was caught off by his voice.
"Is this about the magic? Again, Sapphire?" He asked lightly, his claws fiddling with a shimmering shell about as large as a small sea turtle. His eyes trailed away from her focusing on it instead as he awaited her reply.
"I...yes." She replied with a hint of guilt
He gazed back at her and frowned slightly before speaking again, "How many times must I tell you guys. It's harmless, see look." Flounder kicked away the shell with a talon before bending over. He scooped up a talon's full of sand and gave her a grin before quietly whispering to it. As his lips moved the tingling in his talons hummed to life, it always seemed to do that whenever he enchanted something. He looked back up at her and suddenly blew it from his talons, and as it did a shimmering gold light filled the air.
