teddy walked out of school with liam.
stiles whistled softly as liam walked away, and teddy punched his arm.
"didn't see you walking at lunch today."
scott said as him, teddy, and stiles clambered into stiles jeep.
"you make friends?"
scott turned around to face his sister in the back of the car.
"i guess."
teddy responded simply.
stiles stuck his head into the back next to scott.
"do you like him?"
in this situation, most people would flip out in denial, but teddy remained calm.
she was used to the young stilinski's teasing.
she shrugged.
"i only met him today."
"so you could like him?"
"you might?"
teddy zoned out of stiles' relentless questioning by looking out at the fast-passing scenery.
she leaned her head back against the seat, watching the green and grey and pink blurs of spring pass by.
finally, stiles pulled up outside the mccall household.
the pair thanked the driver before hopping out and heading inside.
when scott hauled open the stiff front door, the two siblings were greeted by their mother.
she embraced them both, and the pair inhaled the familiar scent of home.
melissa let go of her two children, and scott instantly raced to his room to get on with whatever he did up there alone. (p.g. thirteen, obviously.)
teddy gently flipped off her shoes before climbing up the stairs.
"mom!"
she called.
"i'm gonna go for a walk!"
"okay!"
melissa called to her daughter from the kitchen.
"be home before my shift ends at ten!"
teddy made her way into her room to get changed.
she wanted to get out as fast as she could, so she just pulled on the sweater and jeans on her bed.
after taking one look outside, teddy changed the sweater for a red 'gryffindor™️' tshirt.
she pulled her long brown hair into a ponytail, and then grabbed the book she was reading.
teddy didn't mind her house; that wasn't why she wanted to leave so abruptly.
this was her childhood home, and it carried hundreds of memories, even from before teddy was born.
teddy loved her family, too.
her brother and mom were virtually all she had, minus stiles and some other people.
the reason teddy wanted to leave was simply that she liked nature.
outdoors was so much calmer.
it had a peaceful vibe that teddy couldn't get enough.
also, like at school, teddy simply enjoyed being alone.
but she didn't tell anyone that.
because no one seemed to get it.
><
teddy arrived at the clearing by the river at about five.
she sat by the waters edge and took off her shoes and socks, discarding them to beside the rocks.
teddy dangled her bare feet into the cool water, barely flinching as the icy currents curled between her toes.
she picked up her book from beside the rocks also, and began to read.
><
the next time teddy looked up from the yellowed pages, the sun had set.
teddy was a bit disappointed, as she enjoyed watching the colours of the sunset bleed out across the ripples in the water, but she had simply been to engrossed in her book.
that moment, though, something caught teddy off guard.
a voice.
"is that a good book?"
chuckling, teddy turned to face liam.
"god, you scared me."
"sorry."
liam shrugged.
"but, yeah, it is."
"what book is it?"
liam asked, sitting down next to teddy.
teddy's cheeks turned red, now that the boy was so suddenly in such a close proximity.
liam couldn't tell because of the dark, which teddy was thankful for.
teddy turned the book so the cover was facing the blonde boy.
"percy jackson, huh? classic."
"you read it?"
"nah."
liam sighed, positioning his hands so they were behind him, and then leaning his body weight against them.
"i'm not a book kind of person."
"you should be."
teddy said, which was completely out of character.
she wasn't normally this talkative; or demanding.
but something about liam meant that teddy wasn't shy.
and she liked it.
liam's blue eyes sparkled in the moonlight.
the boy was so very different from the girl sat beside him, and liam didn't do different, but he felt at ease with teddy.
liam wasn't shy like teddy.
his anger got the best of him, and he always spoke his mind.
but being with teddy allowed liam to control his anger.
he wasn't even bothered by mason and garrett's teasing today.
maybe it was because liam didn't want teddy to know that he was literally a walking time bomb.
or maybe it was because what the two boys were saying was true.
liam did think teddy had beautiful eyes.
><
it was half past nine before liam began to walk teddy home.
she said he didn't have to, but he insisted, being the gentleman that he was.
as they walked, liam's eyes were unfocused.
he had something on his mind, but for once, he couldn't bring himself to say it.
finally, he swallowed.
you can't get anything if you don't try for it.
something his dad always said, before...
liam shook his head, removing the thought from the forefront of his mind.
"hey, teddy."
he finally said.
"yeah?"
she smiled at him sweetly.
"so.."
liam could feel the sweat trickle down his forehead, so he hastily wiped it away with the sleeve of his red sweater.
his blue eyes couldn't find teddy's eyes to focus on, so he focused on her smile.
she had a really pretty smile.
"so—uh, tomorrow is lacrosse tryouts. i—uh, was wondering if you wanted to come along. if you want?"
teddy laughed at liam's nervousness.
"sure i will."
teddy said calmly, but inside, she was a bonfire.
fireworks erupted inside her stomach, so much it forced her to laugh out loud.
her heart was racing, completely out of control.
her stomach was a garden; new emotions blooming as though they were flowers.
nervousness. excitement.
fear.
teddy didn't know what to do.
was this a date?
what should she do?
she felt the colour drain from her face, and prayed that liam didn't notice.
finally, the two arrived outside the mccall house.
teddy turned around to face the blonde boy.
"thanks, li."
"no problem."
just as teddy was about to walk through the front door, she turned.
"liam."
"yeah?"
the blonde boy turned to face the brown haired girl.
"i didn't catch your last name. i need someone to look out for in the lacrosse game."
a smile formed on liam's face.
"dunbar."
"okay, dunbar."
teddy found herself smiling back at the boy.
"what's yours?"
"mccall."
she smiled.
"bye, mccall."
and without another word, liam turned and wandered off into the night.
><
teddy made it in just as her mother rocked up from her shift.
"that was close, missy."
melissa tutted at her daughter before ruffling her hair.
"i'm here, aren't i?"
teddy swung round the bannister smiling before running upstairs.
as much as teddy tried, she just couldn't get liam off her mind.
because of this, she found herself smiling non-stop.
around ten, scott walked into her room.
"you're gonna have to wait for me after school tomorrow, i have lacrosse tryouts."
"i know."
teddy answered simply.
"oh, how?"
scott furrowed his brows.
"someone asked me to go watch."
"teddy, are you okay? you seem.. different."
"yeah, i'm good."
scott seemed puzzled for a moment, but then he smiled.
"good. i like you like this."
"so do i."
teddy agreed truthfully.
scott left, but a few seconds later appeared around the door once again, causing teddy to chuckle.
"who asked you to the game?"
teddy rolled her eyes.
"liam."
"that blonde boy?"
"yeah, that blonde boy."
scott whooped suddenly, evoking a yell from his mother.
"what?!"
"teddy's moving up in the world!"
he yelled excitedly.
"she's growing up!"
teddy laughed again.
she never really laughed, especially not this often.
but, then again, she never really spoke to cute blonde boys with blue eyes either.
