When you farm crabs, keep two pools separated by a narrow sand bridge.
Keep one of the pools clean and clear. Don't crowd the crabs. Supply em with good food.
Keep the other pool dirty and crowded. The crabs from the dirty pool will use the narrow sand bridge to try and invade the clean pool. And the crabs from the clean pool will defend their wealth.
In this way, you'll keep em from ponder’n a mass escape from their inevitable doom.

I see heavy political symbolism in piece! A nasty ruler would keep his people fighting for wealth while they are watching and knowing it's all a useless attempt to survive.
We'll call this 'The Crab Farm'... sorry, Mr. Orwell... XD
