PROMISES

You promise me light when all I've ever known is darkness

You want to show me love when I've made hatred my palace

You wish to give me hope when I've already befriended despair

You want to brighten my world with relations when I've decorated my life with lamps fuelled by solace.

You wish to take me to that side of life, I now nothing about.

I've lived in the dark so long that I no longer dread it - I don't wish to turn anything around

You see, I never knew of light - I have no hope of finding it now.

How can you call me a pessimistic when all that life threw at me made me but a realistic.

How can I trust your promises when all that I've learnt about them is that they are meant to be broken

How can I believe in happiness when I've known the abyss of melancholy to be permanent

How can I put faith in you when you are merely a guest in my land

I can't trust you but can I trust myself to take the leap of faith - I think I can.

Quote - Have the confidence to face everything except regret at untried shots.
