Chapter 36 - Worst Kind Of Torture

Jake's P.O.V

My hands were shaking with one hand still holding my phone. I couldn't take the phone away from my ears even though the scumbag had already hung up.

Lin was in trouble. The fear in her voice was enough to tear me apart but the sounds of her whimpers and muffled screams felt like a knife on my heart that was being stabbed on and on.

"What did she say?" Trent asked immediately taking me out from my trance.

"Now, back to what I was saying. I want you to come here. Alone. No police or bullshit. Be here in an hour. If not, you'll have to say goodbye to your wife and friend. Got it?"

His words rang in my mind over and over again. There was still a percent that he couldn't really see me, but then he might be actually telling the truth. I can't risk that. All I can do was get to them.

My phone vibrated in my hands. I looked at it and immediately figured out who texted me. I opened the text and was soon greeted by an address. It was from an unknown number, so it doesn't really take a genius to figure out who texted me.

The longer I stay here, the more things they can do to my Lin. She could be badly hurt right now. They could be taking advantage of her...

I shook the thought away and faced my friends who were all wearing worried expressions.

"She asked me to meet her," I said bluntly.

The words flowed out from my mouth freely that there was no trace of lies.

"In London?" Drew asked.

I shook my head. "She didn't catch her flight."

They nodded their heads. It was obvious from their expression that they were happy about it. Boy, did they know that I was just lying straight in their face.

I wanted so badly to tell them what was happening and ask them to call the police. But then I wasn't sure as to who I was dealing with.

"Do you want us to come with you?" Gabe asked.

I shook my head. "No. We have to talk one on one."

From the place where I stood glued on I started to walk towards the table were my keys were. On the process of standing up from my half bend, Drew held my wrist with pure worry in face.

Could it be possible that he could actually see right through me? Well, that would make sense. He was my best friend of course he could sense.

"You call us when you need us, Jake," he said.

I nodded my head, grateful for his offer. But I highly doubt I could actually call him.

What was worse, this could be the last time I was going to see them and I couldn't even say a word.

A speech would be nice, but I should hit the road. I was not going to risk anything. I walked normally to the door but the moment I was out and the door was shut I bolted into a run.

I parked my car just right outside of the apartment building. I was actually expecting it to be in an abandoned warehouse or factory, but no. The apartment wasn't fancy nor decent. It still looked like a place that I wouldn't live in even though I was broke. The walls were covered in vandalisms of vulgar words and graffiti.

The moment my car stopped I turned off my ignition and walked out of my car immediately. I didn't care about my surroundings. It was probably stupid to get in without any weapon, but I was ready for whatever outcome.
