Matte Lips and Smokey Eyes

Start from the beginning

Just as I expected, he approached a store clerk to ask for help. "Sure! We'll get you some lipstick to match your skin tone, some eye shadow, mascara, and some highlighter that suits you," the clerk, whose tag read "Sarah," said as she led us over to the lipstick section of the store. "Do you have an idea of what color you'd like?"

I stepped back a bit to allow Dan to browse the various colors and shades, and after stating he wanted red, much to my delight, Sarah put a few colors onto his wrist and picked out two different ones. "This color was the one that best matched your skin tone. Now, would you like the matte version of this or the gloss?" Without missing a beat, he chose matte.

We went onto the eye shadow display and Dan picked out a nice, slightly smokey color with Sarah's guidance. Finishing off by grabbing some pale pink highlighter and black mascara, we checked out, thanked Sarah, and headed back to the apartment.

"I guess I'll need to look up tutorials on this, huh?" I nodded, seating myself on the edge of our bed as he sat at the desk with a mirror propped against the wall in front of him. He flipped open his iPad and pulled up a few videos, glancing through each one to see which was the best. "Ok," he stated as he popped open the container of shimmery eye shadow.

However, instead of beginning to apply it like the video instructed him to, he turned to me. "Um," he said as his cheeks turned a shade of pink, "Would...would you mind not being here while I apply this? For a while, I mean. You can come back when I'm almost done." I nodded understandingly and stood up, giving him a quick hug and a peck on the lips before gently closing the door behind me.

For the next 20 minutes, I busied myself with getting some ingredients prepped for tonight's dinner: fajitas. I knew it was Dan's favorite meal that I make and I wanted to pamper him since he was slowly coming out of his shell. For the past month or so, I had caught him eyeing makeup magazines whenever we went to Tesco, but I had never asked out of fear he'd close himself off from me. When he was ready to fully become who he wanted to be, I'd be there for him. No matter what.

After washing my hands once I finished chopping the vegetables, I decided to go back upstairs and check on my beautiful boyfriend, who would probably now look so dazzling that I wouldn't be able to keep my hands off of him.

I tapped on the door three times before cracking it open enough to stick my head in. I was immediately at a loss for words once I saw Dan's reflection in the mirror. His eyes looked darker, more mysterious, and yet so tantalizingly seductive with the eye shadow he put on. That combined with his now-rosier cheeks made my heart start to pound and my stomach twist in excitement. He was just about to put on lipstick. I watched as he dragged the red, matte color across his bottom lip, catching the skin and pulling it a bit along with the stick of makeup.

I was fascinated when he released the lipstick from his lips, allowing the skin to ping back to its original place. After he repeated the process with his upper lip, he gave himself a tiny, determined nod in the mirror before putting the cap back on and standing up. He must not have noticed me before when I first entered, for he jumped back a bit once he saw me.

He grabbed the ends of his jumper and looked towards the floor, going deep into a submissive state, which only served to entice me further. "Baby? May I come in?" He took a deep breath before nodding his head, refusing to lift his gaze from the hard wood flooring of our bedroom. I stepped in, closing the door behind me before making my way over to an extremely flustered Dan. "Baby, can I see your pretty face?"

He let out a tiny gasp before slowly raising his head and gaze to meet mine, his lips slightly parted. I raised my hand and caressed my thumb over where he put on the blush, in awe of just how hard he worked to blend it into his skin. The area was smooth, soft, and pleasing to the touch. I then moved my hand to his lips, tracing them with my index finger before looking at it to see that no makeup had rubbed off in the process. How magical is that?

The entire time my hands and eyes explored his face, Dan kept his gaze locked onto my eyes, eagerly awaiting the final verdict on his work. I laid my hands to rest on his shoulders before looking into his eyes, relishing the deer-in-the-headlights look they held before answering the unspoken question.

"This is beautiful, baby. You're beautiful. You always have been, but now... Wow, Dan. I-you've honestly outdone yourself on this." He snapped out of his daze and pounced on me, wrapping his arms around my neck before tucking his head into the crook of my neck. "You really think so?" he mumbled against my skin, causing a chill to run from where his lips were. "Of course. You look absolutely breathtaking."

I "aw"ed as he snuggled even closer to me,  wrapping my arms around his back and slowly rocking us back and forth in the middle of the bedroom floor as we basked in the comfort of having each other so close.

After a few minutes, I pulled back a bit to get another, proper look at him. "You are so impressive, Dan. Your beauty, your hidden talent of applying makeup, your personality...You are such an amazing person and a wonderful best friend and boyfriend. I am so happy you've embraced these curls," I said as I gently wound one around my finger, "this softer persona," I said as I tugged on the pastel pink jumper he was sporting, "and now the makeup? Gosh, Dan."

He was smiling, evidently basking in the praise I was wholeheartedly giving him. "I love you. I love you so much, baby. I-gosh-I want to...can I kiss you?"

I slowly ran my fingers through Dan's sweat-drenched curls, thoroughly spent and unable to muster the energy to put clothes back on. I could tell Dan was, too, for he had yet to wake up. However, once I had that observation, my sleeping angel stirred a bit before cracking open his brown doe eyes. I smiled as he yawned and shoved himself closer to me. "You feeling ok, baby?" I asked as I pulled his top half onto my torso. "Mhm. A little sore, but that's ok."

"I just can't believe your makeup is still on!" I exclaimed as I eyed his face. Sure enough, the lipstick was only a bit smudged. Everything else was the same as when Dan first applied it. "Hmm. Well, that's funny. I could've sworn some would rub off in the process." "Guess not," I said as I rubbed his sweaty back.

"Phiiiiiil. I feel gross." "Then, do you want me to draw a bath for you?" "Yes please," he murmured as he closed his eyes again. I gently moved him off of me so I could get up and run the water. "Hey, Dan?" "Hmm?" "Love you." He cracked an eye open and smiled at me. "Love you, too."

A/N: I got the idea for this from @botanistlester and their story, Weave Me Into Your Skin. It's smut, just to warn you, but a whole lot of fluff in the beginning. I highly recommend you check it out if you're ok with reading that kind of stuff, since it's an amazing story.
