Chapter 36 - Teacher

My phone started ringing in the morning around 8ish. I groaned and answered

"Hello?" I said groggily. Maddy was at school and Alec was at work so it was just me in the house with Tommy

"Clary, it's Ella how are you?"

"Oh hey Ella I'm good thanks how are you?" I said sitting up in bed

Just then Tommy started crying so I balanced my phone between my shoulder and ear and went to pick Tommy up

"I'm very good thanks I actually called because I've found something for you"

"Oh,right" I said "what is it?"

"One of the art teachers at a highschool is on temporary leave because she broke her leg and I have recommended you for the job"

"Oh wow Ella that's amazing. Aren't I a bit unqualified for that job though? I mean I've never taught art before how do you even do that?"

"Nonsense you'll be perfect. The school want you to start on Wednesday"

"Wow that's soon umm how long would it be for?" I asked

"6 weeks" she replied "you'll get full pay and maybe a bonus depending on how well you do"

"Umm can I think about it?" I said

"Of course, but the school needs an answer pretty quickly so I'll call back tonight at 6"

"Okay, that's fine Ella. Oh what school is it by the way?" I asked. She told me the name and I was surprised

"Oh that's my old high school" I said

"That's great so you already know it" Ella said

"Yeah I'll speak to you at 6 bye Ella" I said hanging up the phone

Wow 6 weeks. I can't teach though I wouldn't know where to start. I mean just because I'm good at art doesn't mean I can teach it.

"What do you think Tommy?" I said looking out at him but he just opened his mouth like a fish and made a little noise.

"What about you huh? Who's going to look after you everyday?" I said to Tommy

"Mommy" he said putting his little hands on my face

"What if Mommy isn't here, we could leave you with Tessa for 6 weeks?"

"Wessa" Tommy said

"Shall we go over and ask her?" I said looking at Tommy as he smiled

I got dressed and fed Tommy before  putting him in the car seat and drove to Tessa's

"Hey Clary" she said letting me in. I knew Will was at work and Lucie was at school so it was just her in the house

"So what's up you have that serious look on your face?" She asked

"Well Ella called and she wants me to teach at our old highschool for 6 weeks. Apparently one of the teachers is on temporary leave because she broke her leg"

"Wow Clary that's amazing are you going to say yes?"

"I don't know it's a big opportunity but I haven't worked since Tommy was born. And I've never taught before"

"You'd be a great teacher Clary I think you should take this. I mean believe me, I was going to start working again once Lucie started school but I'm still here"

"So I should say yes?"

"I think you should" she said "but remember it doesn't matter what I think, it's your decision alone"
