Sang's POV

I head up the stairs to the roof where I usually met the Academy heads. I was redlined to attend a new mission. I haven't been active in months. Phil said I'd deserved a break after the last one that I finished. It only took six months to bring down a drug cartel.

I had been in the Bahamas enjoying the sun and the water. Drink in hand. Music flowing. Sunburning. Best vacation ever. Now I'm back. Because my phone rang. I knew I should have left it behind in Charleston so they couldn't get a hold of me.

Being a Ghostbird isn't exactly as fun as it sounds. Constantly getting bossed around. Being ordered to take down them because of that. No sleep. No alone time. Only domineering old people who saved my life. I owe them everything. Or so I thought.

In my younger years up until I was seventeen I was abused. Not just your everyday verbal abuse or a slap here and there. No I got locked in the basement for days at a time. Was made to drink concoctions of different things that burned my throat. Got beat with belt buckles. And my stepmothers favorite. Tally
Marks.

That was until Dr. Phil Roberts found me. He and a team of his choosing had their eyes on me for quiet some time. They were observing me. Waiting for me to prove my skill set to be Academy material.

I guess I had done just that the night they found me. I had taken enough verbal and physical abuse from my family. I just snapped. I beat the hell out of my stepmother after taking a lashing with her rusty old belt buckles. I didn't let the pain stop me. No it fueled the anger inside me. Fucking bitch.

They pulled me from that house and I was taken to an underground bunker where others my age were held. I didn't care where I was as long as I was away from that hell I had been living for years. It was later that I found out it was The Academy. The actual location of it.

The others and I were told what was expected of us. They wanted to train us to protect ourselves and others. We weren't the police but we also weren't criminals. More like vigilantes. The idea of that makes me smile. I could do good. The teams we had been split into were by gender, age, and category. I was a Ghostbird which I learned meant I didn't exist. They never registered my birth so I was rare. I was placed on the upper level ranks because I was important. I trained alone only to become one of their best assets. Surveillance. Weaponry. Undercover. Spying. You think it I can do it. They only used me when they had no other options. No I was curious as to why they pulled me from my much needed break only to pull me into another mission. This better be important.

The elevator dings and the doors open only for me to walk straight out into the night air. Taking in my surroundings as I was trained to do I see an older man with white hair in his late sixties or so. Dr.Roberts. Beside him are the other heads of the Academy. Alfred and Linda. They are all so stiff. Formal sitting at a little tea table. I hate it.

"Sang, take a seat. We need to talk." Phil's voice held seriousness and no room for argument. I took a seat very unladylike. I don't like to be ordered around.

"This better be good Phil I've only just started my vacation three days ago. What happened to taking a break?" I couldn't stop the annoyance and anger that came out of my mouth. He out of everyone should know how I feel. I've been with the Academy since I was seventeen and now here I am twenty one and I haven't really had a solid day off since. I deserved this vacation.

"Sang I'm sorry we had to pull you in but we have a top priority mission we need our best person on. We can't just send in anyone because of the circumstances you'll face." That had me thinking what could be so important that it had to be me.

He tossed a pile of profile folders at me. "In these folders are the images and 'what to know' about each of you targets. Their are nine of them and this is a need to know operation. What you need to know is they are deadly and hold no remorse for hurting anyone. You'll need to be extremely cautious. I'm not quiet sure how you plan to get in with them but we need you to get the scoop on their the whereabouts of their hideouts are and what exactly they plan to achieve so we can officially take them down. And Sang?" I looked up not even realizing I had been starring at the stack of folders the entire time he was talking to me. It's a habit. I just lull off at times.
