"so man up, and ask her out!" will exclaimed, hitting his chest.

mike flinched and stopped at his locker as the other boys walked away, continuing with their conversation.

he sighed, opening the blue metallic locker and grabbing some books he needed for his first class.

mike heard a locker opening not too far from him and he turned his head to his right, he saw eleven, who was also shuffling some stuff into her own locker.

he quickly closed his and hesitantly walked towards her.

"el" he said once he was behind her.

she jumped a little and turned around, a smile replaced her frown once she saw the boy.

"mike. hi" she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

"h-how are you?"

el sighed, crossing her arms to her chest, "i'm... good. i talked with max last night"

mike's eyes widened, "y-you did?"

"yeah! we-we're fine. we're cool now. friends- again" she smiled.

he grinned, "i'm happy-"

the school bell. el and mike both jumped.

"shit! i- have a history test. i gotta go." she said, alarmed.

"okay! yeah! uh- i'll see you at lunch?" he asked as she took a few steps away.

"yeah. i'll be there" she smiled again.

eleven started to walk away. mike bit his lip and then sprinted to her, "hey, el!" he grabbed her wrist and she turned around, her eyebrows knotted together when her eyes met the boy's.

mike leaned down and placed a soft kiss to her cheek; a really unexpected move for her— and him.

her cheeks grew warm and she suddenly felt all bubbly inside.

"i'll see you in a bit" she said softly, grabbing his hand and giving it a squeeze before letting go, giving him one last smile and started to walk away.

mike stood there for a few seconds, looking at the petite girl walk away, his heart eyes probably showing off— he didn't care.

it was only when the second bell rang when he unfroze and cursed under his breath, realizing he was late for class and he ran down the hall.

jane took a deep breath and started taking heavy steps towards the group's lunch table. everyone was already sitting and conversing. she couldn't help but feel nervous as this was the first time she'd have lunch with her friends for the longest time.

the anxiety was building inside of her as she was only a couple of steps away from them and sooner than she thought she was there, standing in front of them.

mike looked up when everyone looked beside him, he grinned when he saw her.

"hey, el. sit." he patted the place next to him and she sat, placing her tray of food in front of her.

the silence was increasingly awkward. no one really knew what to say, until max luckily started conversation about the most random thing and everyone soon started chatting again.

eleven felt like always. she felt strangely back home. as if time had stopped and she was soon laughing with everyone and joining the conversations.

when she stopped talking and started eating, she looked to her side, focusing on the freckled boy who was in fact already looking at her. she gave him a goofy grin.

"what?"

"oh, nothing" he said, not taking his eyes off her.

"mike" she tilted her head.

"what?", he chuckled, "am i not aloud to look at my gir-", he stopped. his smile turning into a little frown when he realized his mistake, a look of disappointment replaced el's grin.

"my friend", he rephrased, "am i not aloud to look at my friend?"

he knew he screwed up. that what he had just said made absolutely no sense. but he had already opened his mouth and he had to fix the awkwardness, somehow.

el chuckled a little and their gazes soon fell back to their food.

she bit her lip, and with her free hand she slowly grabbed his. he looked at her hand, attached to his, and then up at her.

they gazed at each other as if holding hands below the table was their little secret.

mike intertwined their fingers and they eventually continued eating their meal.

without even noticing, their hands were kept clasped to each other throughout the rest of the day.
