I pack my bag with just the bare necessities. No need to any unnecessary items on a three hour drive.

My roommate, Laken, enters the room.

After my meltdown the other day, she calmed me down and cleaned up all the Xanax. She knows I have bad anxiety, so she didn't question them. For the last two days, she's been making sure I eat, drink, and shower. She's the opposite of me.

She comes from a rich family. She always looks perfect with her subtle makeup. She has brand new clothes and multiple shoes lined under her bed by color. She has all straight A's in her classes. She has the head jock as her boyfriend.

She reminds me of Emerson.

Except for the money thing.

"Will you be careful on your trip?"

"Yes."

"When will you be back?"

"I'm not sure yet. Hopefully next week."

"Tell her I say hi!"

"You've never even met her."

She shrugs, handing me the small daypack that contains my stuff.

"Still."

"Okay. I will."

I start to exit the room but I turn one last time towards Laken.

"Thanks for all your help."

"You're welcome, Julien."

I close the door, descending the stairs. I make my way to where my Chevy Malibu is parked. My bag resides in the front seat as I start the car, preparing to make my second life changing trip in the last five years.
