I automatically headed towards the spare seat next to Shay. She was looking at me questionly as she tied her long, thick brown hair into a messy ponytail.

'Who's this?' The teacher asked, her words drawing me back towards them.

'This is....' I trail off as I realise I never found out his name. I feel eyes watching me, like me and the boy are the main attraction a theme park. 'The new boy.' I finish, swallowing my sudden panic.

'Right.' The teacher nodded an acknowledgement towards him. 'Why don't you two sit together at the back desk?' It was more of a command than a question.

'No - I'm sitting with Shay.' I objected. I looked towards the boy guiltily, but found his blue eyes emotionless. I may have wanted to find out more about him, maybe give him a helping hand, but I didn't want to be stuck with him. Outside of class maybe. But with eyes watching me, pressuring me, I felt I had to say something they would want me to say.

'Come on, Olivia.' The teacher said, surprisingly harshly. His tone told me I had to agree. I pushed I strand of my hair behind my ear. It was straying away from my bun, like I felt I was straying away from reality.
