Letter to someone who committed suicide

by Violet Markey

I know you'll never read this but I just want to say I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't realize you were suffering.  I'm sorry I was this unaware. I'm sorry I didn't try to help you. I'm sorry I didn't care enough. I'm sorry you had to go through this all alone. I'm sorry I left when I should've stayed. I just hope you'll forgive me.

Do you know I am forever changed now? I used to think that was because you came into my life and talked me down from the ledge of the bell tower. But it is because you loved me, made me feel gold flowing and then left, in such a permanent way.

I guess I'll never know why you did what you did. But I do know this: You got me out of my 3 to 4 miles and back up on the camel. You showed me the world even when we weren't wandering. You're the reason why I started writing and driving again. You made me feel whole again. You saved me.

Why couldn't I save you?
