Homophobia

So far in my life, I have been lucky enough not to encounter any homophobia directed at me, at school or outside of school. So it came as a bit of a shock when my mum told me not to mention it around one of my old friend's parents. This person has been my friend since I was eight, and their parents are extremely nice, in fact, their mum wanted me to be their girlfriend, which in my opinion is the best compliment you can get from someone's parents.

But on realising that their Christianity would in turn mean they were homophobic, I felt a bit uncomfortable. I don't like them any less, because they are some of the kindest people one could have the fortune to meet, but I am now more wary around people and telling them casually that I'm ace and a bit gay.

Because no matter how kind someone can be, you can never know how opinions might clash and destroy friendships.
