Chapter 10 - Ugh Chemistry

Clary POV

It was almost the end of the day and I was stuck in my last lesson, chemistry. I was doodling in my book as the teacher droned on. I hated chemistry but for some reason I was really good at it and back in Miami I had skipped a year and moved up. Here though I was in the same year so everything the teacher taught I had already learned.

I looked up the clock. 5 minutes left. I saw a shadow at the door and looked over to see Alec waiting outside for me. I caught his eye and he smirked at me. I felt myself blush and saw him laugh as I quickly looked back down.

Finally the bell rang and I quickly packed everything into my backpack.

"Clary, Sebastian, Nathan could you stay behind please?" Mr Cartfield said

Was i trouble? I made my way to the front and stood a few feet away from Seb and Nathan because they still flirted with me sometimes. It was now just us three in the class.

"Don't worry Clary you're not in trouble" Mr Cartfield said obviously noticing my confused expression.

"I called you here because Sebastian and Nathan are struggling in this class and I want you to tutor them"

"Oh umm" I said not really knowing how to reply

"You will obviously have to sort out the timings yourself but I will give you all the resources you need Clary, will you help?"

"Umm I guess so" i replied. I mean I can't really say no to a teacher can I?

"Great here's everything you need for this week I trust you will organise one session each week with Sebastian and Nathan, it should only take about 1 hour or 2" he said handing me chemistry papers.

I nodded. "Sebastian, Nathan make sure you pay attention to what Clary teaches you because if you don't get your grades up you will be removed from the football team"

Both of the boys just nodded. "Good you can all go now" he said and all of us left the room quickly. Alec looked up and walked towards me, Seb and Nathan

"So Clary shall we meet you later at your house?" Nathan said smirking as Alec looked at me with a confused expression.

"Actually Alec is helping me with some work tonight so we can work out a schedule tomorrow Nathan. I'll do individual sessions with you both. Sebastian can you come over tomorrow straight after school. Just you. Alone" I said glaring at Nathan

"Sure" Seb replied
"Good see you tomorrow, and don't worry Nathan I'm sure I'll find some time for you" I said and walked off dragging Alec with me

We got out the door and I drove us both home to my house. Alec was living with us again so it was easier for us to hang out but we did have to make sure Jon didn't suspect anything.

Alec POV

"So what was that all about, and why is Seb coming over tomorrow?" I asked trying not to sound jealous but Clary obviously noticed. She laughed and gave me a small kiss as we stood in the elevator.

"You my tall friend have nothing to worry about. Mr Cartfield wants me to tutor Seb and Nathan because their grades aren't good. That's why Seb is coming over. I was just being sassy because Nathan still​ keeps trying to flirt with me and its getting on my nerves now" Clary said

"Well I have no doubt that you can defend yourself against Nathan Clary but don't worry I'll always protect you" I replied grinning. She smiled back and leaned her head on my chest.

"Alec?" She said looking at my blue eyes with her emerald green ones

"Yes my little red?" I said looking down

"I think we should tell Jon about us" she said

"Really, I mean if you want to of course I agree but don't rush into anything" I said

"I know but I think I realised something today when Nathan was flirting"

"And what's that?"

"That I think I love you Alec Lightwood and want to be able to spend time with you without having to sneak around. I want to be able to kiss you at school without hiding and not have random people trying to flirt with me. I just want to be with you"

"Clary Fray" I said caressing her cheek "I love you too. It pains me seeing other guys flirt with you and having to hide when I want to kiss you which is pretty much always and I would love to just pick you up in the hallway spin you around and kiss you while everyone watches so they can see how happy we are"

Clary laughed and hugged me tightly.

"Do you want to tell Jon now?" I asked and she nodded.

"Alec?"

"Yes?"

"Did you press the button?"

"No I thought you did"

We both burst out laughing

"So we have just been standing in a elevator and not moving at all for like 10 minutes?" I said as we carried on laughing. I pressed the button and we went up to the apartment

Clary POV

Alec and I walked into the apartment set our stuff down and were about to tell Jon about us when my mom entered looking worried

"Mom what's wrong?" I asked

"Umm Alec, Clary you might want to sit down for this" she said

"Okay..." I said sitting on the couch next to Alec

"Umm... Clary I ummm"

"Mom just tell us" I said getting slightly irritated

"Its Sam he's been spotted in New York and apparently he has enrolled at your school" my mom said very quickly.

It took me a minute to process what my mom had just said. Why is here? Has he come for me? What do I do? Without even realizing I screamed at my mom

"NO YOU'RE LYING, HE CAN'T BE HERE HE CAN'T BE, I..." Before I could finish talking I burst into tears and ran to my room.

"Clary" I heard Alec shout but I ignored him and slammed the door

Alec POV

As soon as Jocelyn spoke I saw Clary tense up and then she screamed and ran to her room. I'd never seen her so upset before, she didn't show her emotions much except to people close to her

"Clary" I said and went to go after her but Jocelyn grabbed my arm.

"Just give a few minutes" Jocelyn said and I nodded.

"I realize that she didn't know but she did look slightly tense on the way in did something happen" Jocelyn asked

"Actually no she was planning on telling Jon about me and her being together" I said

"Oh I'm so sorry Alec" Jocelyn replied

"Its okay I can wait a bit longer" i said "if you don't mind I should probably check on her"

Jocelyn nodded "she trusts you Alec take care of her won't you?"

"Always" I said as Jocelyn smiled
