"Mnemophobia."

"I'm sorry what?" I ate a pickle and gave Dylan an odd look.

"It's the fear of memories." "Why do you have a fear of memories?"

"Because it makes me think of bad times."

"Like?"

"Like when my parents used to fight you know? I mean- the first night of high school I stayed at your place remember?"

*Flashback*

"Why are you awake?" I yawned into my phone's speaker.

I had just fallen asleep.

"Um," He breathed out a nervous laugh. I sat up.

"Dylan what's wrong?"

"Nothing. Uh can I come see you?"

"Right now?" I furrowed my eyebrows. I looked like a hot mess.

"Just forget it Carter." I groaned. "Dylan wait!"

He let out a breath.

"The window's open." I told him.

"Okay be right there."

I put my phone down and laid back, waiting for him.

I woke out of my slumber when I heard a noise.

"Huh?" I opened my eyes to see Dylan examining himself in the mirror.

When he heard me he let his shirt drop to his body and turned around.

"Thought you were asleep." "I was. What are you doing?" I wiped my eyes with the palms of my hands.

"Nothing." He said quickly.

I groaned for the millionth time tonight. He was lying. Right now I was just too lazy to find out what he was lying about.

"Dylan come here." I yawned.

He slowly walked over.

"You are totally the worst liar ever."

I pulled myself up with the help of Dylan's arm.

"What were you doing?"

"Nothing." He lied again.

I crossed my legs and peered into his light blue eyes.

"Dylan-" I held one of his hands down with mine and went to lift his shirt up with the other.

"No!" He grabbed my wrist.

I cried out in pain.

"Oh my God." He let his grip go.

I whimpered and rubbed my wrist.

"Carter I- I really didn't mean to."

I gritted my teeth. I can be mad at him later.

"Lift up your shirt." I demanded.

He looked around awkwardly before setting his gaze on the wall and lifted his shirt up.

A big purple bruise lingered his right hip.

"Dylan-" I reached out to touch it but he backed away.

"Did- did your dad do that?" I whispered.
