in all his 17 years on this earth, jeongguk had never seen the letter 'f' more pronounced on a piece of paper before. and especially not on his english test, which he was sure he had aced. i mean, it's not like he actually studied for it, but he thought he knew enough to pass, at least. it seems his predictions were wrong, however, as the sharp angles of the red consonant stared him straight in the face with a taunt that jeongguk didn't know was even possible.
"shit," he cursed, raking his fingers through his hair as he looked over the correct answers to the questions he had gotten wrong (which, for the record, was 97/100 of them). "these are so basic, what is wrong with me?"
"your nose is constantly in those creepy ass books nowadays, it's hardly a surprise you screwed this up."
jeongguk turned around in his seat to face the desk behind his own, a hard stare aimed towards the occupant of said desk. "gyeom, butt out. have you forgotten i'm club leader now and can literally throw you out in a heartbeat?" this earned a wary glance from the highlighter-yellow head, his narrow eyes being rolled as he leant back in his seat away from jeongguk. "yeah, i thought so."
the brunette was sure he heard a mumbled "asshole," but, being the passive person he was, he ignored it and continued to worry about his test score. if his parents knew he was failing a crucial subject, he would be done for - grounded for months and months, locked up and starved. or, at least that's what his mind created when he thought of his own punishment. the reality was much less harsh, a simple scolding and a "you should try harder, ggukie," which would cause extreme disappointment to radiate through his bones and have him begging for forgiveness on his knees.
a clash of a voice which belonged to his english teacher, ms. lim, sounded out and broke jeongguk from his fantasy world. "those with less than 50% need to stay after class," her dark orbs immediately zoned into jeongguk, his face flushing red at the embarrassment of being obviously called out, before she continued. "you'll be getting extra tutoring sessions to bring your grade up, because at this point in the year, getting that sort of score is simply unacceptable." the small groan of roughly 3 students could be heard, so jeongguk knew he wasn't entirely alone in this matter - thank god. "the rest of you are dismissed."
the majority of the class - yugyeom included - placed their belongings into their school bags and headed out, the aforementioned flashing jeongguk a middle finger before exiting the room, to which the latter responded with just a sarcastic grin. he didn't want a detention on top of extra lessons, after all. there were only 3 other students left in the class, and truthfully, jeongguk felt like it was some sort of prank. why had he been left with the 3 most badly behaved, notoriously stupid kids? he was smart - really smart, even - and behaved well despite his social standings amongst his peers, so why was he currently on their level?
