"you know, you're a really cute boy." he half shouted, competing with the pounding music of the club.
"oh, well, thank you, but i'm not. a boy that is." before he could ask, i clarified. "not a girl, either. i'm just a person. i prefer 'he...
she clapped her hands and laid back down in her seat as my car came to life and the heat turned on. my fingers began to burn up; i had forgotten that the weather was getting colder. the seasons were changing and i knew fall wasn't going to last long, but that was alright with me. i preferred winter anyway.
about halfway through the drive to drop billie off, she poked my shoulder and sat up. "dan! i almost forgot to ask you a viq."
i frowned but didn't remove my eyes from the road. "what the hell is a viq?"
"it's a very important question. picture!" she shouted, pulling her phone out and opening her camera. i turned to face her right as she was taking the picture. "perfect. anyway," she said, setting her phone on the center console, "there's apparently some college party going on at the club nearby next friday. i don't remember what road it's on. would you want to go?"
i scoffed. "you're going to a college party? you're only fifteen, how did you even get invited-"
she shoved me gently. "oh, shut up, danny boy. i didn't get invited and i wasn't going to go anyway. i have a friend that i met on instagram named connor - who is also a foreign exchange student, mind you - and he sent me a text talking about it and saying that if there was anyone i knew who would want to come, just tell him and he'd get them a spot."
"is connor your age?" i asked, my eyebrows furrowing as i looked at her. "and you better not post that picture anywhere on the internet or i will kill you."
billie pulled her phone out again and kicked her feet up onto the dash. "no, he's in college with a photography major. we met because he wanted to have a photo shoot with me, which is going to happen whenever there is a time that we can actually both get together. but i was going to ask you if you wanted to go to party. oh, and i just posted that picture on insta. only because you told me not to."
i rolled my eyes. "great, thanks bils. and i'm not gonna go. don't like parties much."
"dan. i'm the only person you hang out with. the only person, which is sad because i'm like a million years younger than you. you're practically my grandpa." she rolled her window down and closed her eyes against the cool breeze. "you need to get out and meet more people. you can't always hangout with a fifteen year old."
"watch me," i replied, sticking my tongue out at her.
"oh my god, i think you actually are my grandpa."
