America woke up earlier than she usually would.

Knowing she wasn't goong to be falling asleep again, she got up, making sure she didn't wake up Maxon. It was 5:30am, meaning that Maxon would be awake in around an hour.

America hadn't forgotten about the letter Maxon was reading. She wanted to know why he yelled when she only wanted to see what it was.

Quickly going into the bathroom, America freshened up and then walked into her closet. Putting on a simple green dress, she tied her hair into a ponytail and then grabbed her shoes.

When she looked at the clock it was 5:45 so America knew she had to be quick.

She quietly opened the bedroom door and slipped out. Quickly walking to Maxon's office, she grabbed the extra key he had given her to open the locked door.

Once America got inside, she looked around to find the letter. Finding it in Maxons drawer, she opened it and read it's contents.

America was really confused. She looked at the bottom of the letter and saw who it was from.

Kriss?

'Why is Kriss sending Maxon letters? Why didn't Maxon tell me? But most importantly, why did he say it was from the mayor? Last I checked, Kriss wasn't the mayor.' America thought to herself.

She read the letter again and noticed how Kriss called Maxon 'dear' and a bunch of other pet names, saying how she can't wait to meet him again and can't wait for the little gift he has for her. That the last gift "ran out".

'They've met up? Why didn't he tell me? And what gift is she talking about??' America thought to herself.

Was Maxon cheating on America with Kriss? Before she could jump to any conclusions, she need more proof.

Quickly putting the letter back when she realized that Maxon would wake up in ten minutes, she walked out of the room and locked the door, scurrying away to her office.

America tried working but she was too distracted. She couldn't get the letter out of her head.

A little while later Maxon came into her office. America quickly pretended to be working.

"Morning" she said, giving him a small smile before looking down again.

"Good morning love. Why are you up early? It's not normal for you to do that and it's weird not seeing you beside me when I wake up." he pouted as he made his way over to America.

"Couldn't sleep. I Decided to work on something instead of lying around in bed." She explained, not paying any attention to him and pretended to be absorbed in the paper in front of her.

Maxon draped his arms around America from behind, his chin resting on her shoulder.

"Anyways, can what your working on wait because I would like to have breakfast with you." America leaned back into Maxon, turning her head to look at him.

"This is quite an important paper Mr.Schreave, I'm afraid I can't," America replied in a teasing manner.

Maxon took a glance at the paper and then turned back to his wife. "Wanting to build an extra playground for school kids is really important?" Maxon asked with a raised eyebrow and a smirk on his face.

America hadn't even read the paper in front of her, so hearing what it was about had her internally face palming.

"Why indeed, playgrounds are essential! What would the poor children do during recess?" America retorted playfully, the letter from Kriss completely slipping her mind.

Maxon chuckled and stood up properly, turning America's chair to face him. "I'm glad I know where your priorities lie, but it can definitely wait." He said, holding a hand out for her to take.

Once she stood up, Maxon pulled her close, wrapping his arms tightly around her, giving her a tight hug. "What's this about?" America asked, startled by the sudden closeness.

"I just missed you. It's been a while since we've had a proper break and I miss spending time with you like this," he said, nuzzling his head into Americas neck.

Seeing Maxon be so clingy always made Americas heart melt. He was just so cute she couldn't help but push him away and let out a small laugh. Wrapping her arms around his neck she pulled him into a sweet little kiss. Just a small kiss though.

"Let's go darling," Maxon said smiling widely.

Instead of going to the dining hall as per usual, the couple went to the garden, sitting under a tree near their special bench. There was a blanket with all sorts of pastries and other breakfast foods, making America's eyes widen and her stomach grumble.

Maxon heard the little rumble and couldn't help but laugh. "Sounds like you're hungry, dig in love,"

"Shut up, I didn't get the chance to eat dinner last night," America started before grabbing some toast and the strawberry jam.

It was a peaceful and enjoyable time for the two, no royal duties, no kids, no nothing. Just them having a few hours to themselves.

America looked up at Maxon and noticed that he was staring at her, but he seemed to be zoned out.

"Why are you staring at me like that? Is there something on my face?" The female asked, touching her face.

"What? Oh no sorry I was thinking about something". He answered before taking another bite of his food. America nodded and continued eating her toast.

"America?" Maxon called after a few moments, fidgeting with his hands.

"Mhm?" She hummed in response, mouth too full to respond properly.

"I need to tell you something" he sounded a bit nervous.

America raised an eyebrow and swallowed the toast in her mouth. "What is it?,"

Every negative thought America had before started racing through her head. But reassured herself that its probably nothing and Maxon was did something minuscule that would make her laugh her head off. But then the next words that came out of Maxon's mouth what the last thing she'd ever expect him to say

"Kriss will be coming to the palace."
