Chapter 15

//Maggie's POV

I was getting to end my gate watch shift when I saw someone run up to the gate.

It was Tess.

I opened the gate and went down to greet her.

She looked very anxious.

"Tess, are you okay?" I asked worriedly.

She nodded, her breathing heavy. She kept looking over her shoulder.

"Come on in," I told her and ushered her inside. I quickly closed the gate after her.

She looked around the community.

"Sweetie," I said, trying to comfort her. "What happened?"

"Tess?" I heard Carl's voice call.

We both turned to see him running over to us.

He came to a stop in front of her.

"Are you okay?" he asked worriedly, checking her over.

"Carl, I'm fine," she promised, still seeming a little winded.

He sighed and nodded. "Let's go to my dad. Explain what happened on the way."

She nodded and let him lead her away.

As I got ready to head back to gate watch, I only had one thought in my head.

He is so in love with her.

//Carl's POV

Keeping one arm around Tess, I led her to my dad.

"So what happened?" I asked.

She softly put her hand on my chest to get me to stop walking.

I obeyed her.

She took a deep breath. "My mom knows."

I felt like I knew what she meant but I didn't wanna believe it. I just stared at her.

"Alpha and Negan know about the alliance," she explained. "And she knows I started it. You should have seen the look on her face. I thought she was gonna kill me."

I took in everything she said. "So Negan knows about the Saviors turning on him?"

She nodded.

I took a deep breath. "We gotta get them away from him."

I called Daryl over and told him everything. He immediately went to get a group ready to go out and get the Saviors out of the Sanctuary.

I sighed and turned back to Tess. "And you obviously can't go back to Alpha. You can stay here."

She nodded softly and sniffled. She was obviously really upset.

I stepped forward and enveloped her in a hug.

She let out a quiet sob and wrapped her arms around me.

And we just stood there holding each other.

If I didn't already know, now I do.

I need Tess. If I lose her, I will fall apart.
