//Carl's POV

I was walking through Alexandria when I heard Maggie call my name.

"Carl! Tess is here to see you!"

I was confused but I went to the gate anyway.

Maggie opened the gate.

Tess was standing there. She smiled a little. "Hey."

"Hey," I responded. "I thought we weren't training today."

"We aren't," Tess confirmed. "I wanted to show you something."

"Oh no," I joked.

Tess laughed. "Come on. I'll have you back before you know it."

I sighed and looked up at Maggie.

She smiled. "I'll cover for you."

I nodded my thanks and walked out with Tess.

"So where are we going?" I asked.

She smirked. "You'll see."

We came out to the road and I saw Tess's motorcycle.

I smiled. "I haven't rode on this thing in a while."

She chuckled. "I haven't either, to be honest."

She got on and I got on after her.

She stopped at a familiar place.

It was the park.

We smiled and raced each other to the swings.

Tess won yet again.

We sat on the swings talking for a while before transitioning into a comfortable silence.

"Why'd you bring me here?" I asked, curious.

She looked over at me and held the chain of the swing. "What do you mean?"

"Well we aren't training and you wouldn't bring me here for no reason."

She sighed, knowing I had figured her out. She stared at the ground.

"I wanted to thank you," she admitted.

I furrowed my eyebrows together in confusion. "For what?"

"For not letting me die," she said, looking at me. "You would've had every right. But you didn't."

I sighed. "You would've done the same for me. And plus, I still care about you."

I nudged her arm with my hand and she smiled, chuckling. She soon stopped.

"I didn't wanna die," she said softly. "I mean, I thought I did, but I guess that was just what I was telling myself. And I'm glad I didn't. Because then I wouldn't have been able to stand up to Negan." She looked at me. "With you."

I smiled a little. "Come here."

We stood up and hugged. We had already hugged once since the breakup, but this hug was different. It felt different.

We pulled away and looked at each other. For the first time in a while, I noticed her eyes, one of my favorite parts about her. They were a crystal blue and they were somehow always sparkling.

She seemed to be noticing things about me, as well, though I couldn't fathom what.

Almost out of habit, we started to lean in.
