PROMPT: You come from an honorable family in the Shire and they want you to marry into another honorable family, but you've got your eyes on a certain hobbit...

It was a certain kind of comfort, sitting atop one of the largest hills of the Shire and letting the breeze ripple through your hair. While it didn't always dispel all of your worries, it did a fantastic job of washing away some of the stress. Your conversation with your parents still weighs heavy on your mind, and you wish for something to grab your attention. Apparently, the night heard your wishes.

"—and they come into my home and trash my kitchen! Barbarians, the lot of them! And then they ask for my help?!"

You recognize the voice right away, and your head was whipping around within seconds. Sure enough, Bilbo Baggins marches up the hill like a hobbit on a mission. His face is an angry red, his brows furrow almost completely together, and he kicks at any rock in sight. Even as his anger rolls off of him in waves, your heart beats wildly in your chest. You've always thought that he is an interesting man; he'd caught your eye the second that you had seen him strolling through the Shire. Curiosity soon turned to admiration, and admiration into something...different.

When you find your voice, you call out to him, "Bilbo?"

His head snaps up to look at you, and some of the anger slips from his face. It's nowhere near the first time that you've spoken to him; there had been several times before now where the conversations had allowed attraction to bloom between the two of you. Part of you is convinced that your parents had seen what was starting up between you and Bilbo, and they are far from happy about it. Still, it doesn't change the fact that just seeing you makes his shoulders slump with relief.

"Y/N, I'm sorry if I startled you; I didn't think that anyone would be out here this late." It was a fair point; the night had dragged on for many hours, and any normal hobbit was in bed.

You shake your head at him, "You didn't really startle me. What were you yelling about, though? It sounds absolutely dreadful."

For a moment, he looks conflicted. His lips swish and he eyes the spot on the grass beside you before he plops down and huffs heavily. "You wouldn't believe the night that I've had."

He sounds just as angry as you feel about your parents' scathing words from before you stormed out of your hobbit hole. So, you raise a brow at him, "Try me."

Again, he glances at you and then in the direction of his hobbit hole as if thinking about whether or not he should really tell you. Eventually, he settles on a decision and leans in close like the whole thing is a secret. "I've got a wizard and a company of dwarves sitting in my home right now. They've made a right mess of everything: terrible house guests, they are."

"Why in the world are they there?" Bilbo had never really made his dislike of rowdy company secret, so the confession puzzles you immediately.

"They want me to help them on a quest to Erebor."

Your chin almost drops to your lap, and Bilbo nods at your surprise. Most hobbits never stepped foot out of the Shire, so the mere mention of an adventure was enough to leave you spluttering. You've always dreamed of maybe leaving; there was something dangerous yet tempting about the outside world. Plus, with the standards and expectations that your parents had for you, the idea of escaping was all that you hold on to. "You have to go!"

"What? And leave the Shire?" It sounds an awful lot like he's looking for a reason to make it all sound insane. However, there's another tone in his voice that tells you that he wants to go; he wants to go so badly.

"Doesn't that sound amazing to you?"

Of course, he didn't shake his head; he couldn't deny that it did sound amazing. "It'll be dangerous."

"If I was you, I'd be chasing that danger."

"You'd go?" his brow is raised, and his mouth quirks with amusement.

That was the real question, wasn't it? While you were sure that there should be more hesitation in your mind, you nod right away. You are willing to do anything to escape the pressures of your parents and a looming threat of arranged marriage.

"Would you go with me?" You stare back at him in disbelief, and he rushes to recover as his cheeks grow red, "I'm sorry, that was incredibly inappropriate—"

Even though your cheeks feel like they're on fire, you stop him by nodding and tripping over your own words, "I'd love to go with you." And well, that was that really.

You return to the Shire battered, beaten, but nowhere near discouraged. It's been a dangerous journey on all accounts, but every heartbreak, cut, and scrape had been worth it. By the time that you stumble through the door to your hobbit hole, your parents are more than surprised to see you alive. Of course, their surprise and happiness only last for a few days before they start to push the idea of marriage on you again.

At first, you hesitate to tell them that you've already found someone. You've already found Bilbo. There's no point in hiding it in the end, and you eventually tell them everything. As you expected, they aren't happy. For weeks they try to dissuade you from marrying Bilbo, but it is no use. Leaving behind their pressures and expectations for you, you join Bilbo for a different sort of journey: a marriage filled with adventure.
