"Make sure to call us everyday!" Shawn said as he hugged Maya for the last time before him and Katy made their way out the door.

"I won't miss a night." Maya promised. Katy smiled and hugged her daughter.

"We love you, baby girl. If you ever need to just come home for the weekend your always welcomed." Katy said as she leaned back and held her daughter my the shoulders.

"I'll be fine, Mom. You guys just take care of this little one." Maya replied as she put her hand on Katy's stomach. Shawn and Katie looked at each other and smiled.

"We love you, kiddo." Shawn said as he started to lead Katy out of the dorm room.

"I love you guys too!" After a few more hugs were exchanged, Shawn and Katy finally made there way back to their car.

"I can't believe that we're in college!" Riley exclaimed as she jumped on her bed in the dorm room and bounced up and down a little.

"You do realize that we're on our own now, right? We can do what we want, whenever we want and not have adults breathing down our throats." Maya exclaimed as she sat down beside Riley.

"As long as we still have time to do our school work. I don't want my grades to suffer just so we can go out and party a little." Riley said Maya rolled her eyes and nodded.

"Don't worry, Riley. We will have plenty of time to still do our school work." Maya got up from the bed and closed their door so she could have some privacy to unpack.

"Hey, Maya? Can we talk about something?" Riley asked as she started to twiddle her fingers in a nervous manner.

"If this has to do with a newly engaged couple then I'd rather we didn't." Maya said not even looking up from her suit case.

"Maya, Josh is here, at NYU, literally  one building down from us. You can't avoid reality." Riley said as her eyes followed Maya.

"I'm not avoiding reality, Riley. I'm aware that uncle boing is on the same campus as us and I'm ok with that. We're in college now it's time to be mature about the situation." Maya said as she sat down on the bed opposite from Riley facing her.

"He knows your here, Maya. He might want to see you." Riley said grabbing her best friends hand in her own. Maya scoffed.

"Now that I doubt. It doesn't matter anyway, he's engaged." Maya looked down at the floor.

"Maybe you being here on campus will change that. If you guys start hanging out as friends this year then maybe he'll be reminded of his feelings for you! Then he'll break up with Adrianna!" Riley exclaimed. Maya looked at Riley like she was crazy.

"Riley, he's not gonna break up with Adrianna he loves her. I could never compete with her. She's a med student, 4.0 GPA, funny, talented, beautiful. She's everything that Josh could ever want. I'm just me." Maya said sadly. Riley shook her head.

"But that's exactly it, your you! You understand Josh more than any other person I know, including my father! We all saw the way he looked at you, he was in love with you. I believe that by the end of the year he'll be reminded of that and come to his senses. My family loves you, Maya. If we had to choose between you or Adrianna, we'd choose you every time!"

"Yeah but Josh isn't gonna marry someone his family loves over someone he loves. Adrianna's great for him, I'm just broken. I come with a lot of baggage and Josh would have never been able to handle it all. It's probably a good thing he ends up with her." Maya and Riley stared at each other for a few minutes until Riley sighed and shook her head looking down at her feet. She was getting nowhere with Maya.

Bzzzzz

Riley grabbed her phone from behind her and read the text message that popped up on her phone.

Uncle Josh: Good for her. 🙂

Riley sighed and put her phone down on the bed. She sat there for a second and thought of her other friends that were supposed to be there by now.

"Let's go find the guys and get some lunch." Riley suggested. Maya nodded as they both got up to get their phones and bags and headed outside on campus. As they were walking by Starbucks Maya was looking down at her phone and not paying any attention and ran into something, or someone.

"Sorry." She said not looking up until Riley grabbed her arm. Maya looked up and saw those familiar brown eyes looking back at her.

Josh had just finished unpacking all of his clothes and putting his suitcase and stuff underneath his bed when Andrew got back from his shower.

"Enjoy your shower?" Josh asked coldly as Andrew put his stuff down.

"Josh, I didn't mean to offend you earlier I just want you to be happy and make the right decision. Beside you got to admit, the way you threw Maya off like that wasn't very fair." Andrew said. John sighed and looked up at him

"We talked about it the night me and Adrianna got together. She said she understood." Josh said as he put on his deodorant and cologne.

"You of all people should know that girls say things they don't mean. Especially when their in the middle of getting their heart broken." Josh gave Andrew a 'shut up' type of look making Andrew throw his hands up in surrender. "Whatever man." Andrew said as he plopped down on his bed and started reading one of his comic books.

I'm going to get a coffee." Josh spoke as he grabbed his wallet and headed out of his dorm. Andrew threw his arm up in a goodbye motion as he left.

20 minutes later, Josh had his coffee and was headed back to his dorm when someone who obviously wasn't looking where they were going, bumped into him making him almost spill his coffee.

"Sorry." The blond mumbled making Josh widen his eyes in shock. He could recognize that voice anywhere. He looked down to see his niece and her best friend side by side. Riley looked at him shocked and grabbed Maya's arm making her look up at him. Neither of them said a word as they looked at each other in shock not daring to make the first move.

"Well ain't this a unusual way to start off the year." Riley giggled nervously as she looked back and forth from her uncle and her best friend.

She had no idea.
