"Excuse me! miss! excuse me!" said the young man as he hurried after her. "Miss!" he exclaimed, after catching up with her.
"I have been calling you, I understand that you are playing hard to get but do you have to pretend to be deaf in that process?" he said, somewhat annoyed.
She gave him a smile, the only evidence of her pain being the dimness of the light in her eyes. He watched in shock as she lifted her hands and made gestures, pointing to her ears and mouth and then shaking her head No.
I am deaf.
His eyes widened in shock and when he recovered, he said disdainfully,
"What a waste of beauty" and walked off.
She shook her head and continued along her path. He did not even know she could read lips. She was after all a 'waste of beauty'.
What a narrow minded world we live in she thought.
