“Oh wow! How mature of you!” Drew prods at my arm playfully.

I pull out my phone from my pocket. 10 minutes until the bell rings. “Okay well, I promised Hilary that I would wait for her near the big oak tree over there,” I gesture behind me, "We can finish this conversation later.”

“Okay. But you’ve got to give me some love first.” I plant a peck on his cheek and then make my way to my waiting spot.

It isn’t for another 10 minutes until Hilary finally comes limping towards me. “Hey!”

I look at her with genuine concern, “Hilary…”

“What?” She checks her attire; a white peplum shirt and skinny jeans. But there is nothing out of the ordinary about those items; it is the 4-inch leopard print platform wedges that seem a little off. “Oh the shoes?”

“Yeah, the shoes. What’s up with those?” My neck starts to cramp as I continue to glare up at Hilary who even without the obnoxiously sizeable heels is a 5’8 and it was clear that the footwear was not necessary. “I want to look more mature!” She insists.

“How are you going to get anything done with those on?”

“It is the first day it’s not like we have any work to do!”

“Have fun getting through the halls and rushing to find your classes in those.”

Hilary sighs, “Maybe I should’ve thought this through.” She leans against the large oak tree for balance. “Now what?”

“I knew that this kind of thing would happen!”

“Wow, thanks for having faith in m—“

“Which is exactly why I packed an extra pair of sneakers this morning.”

Hilary breathes a sigh of relief, “As terrible of a person you are, you still are a life-saver.”
