"OH MY GOD, WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?! Is Maya Ok? Don't jump to any conclusions Carmen please, we'll figure this out together. As soon as my father gets there we'll sort this all out. Just continue to be a good friend & be there for Maya, I'll talk to you soon. Bye." As I hung up the phone, I shook my head in total disbelief.

I knew Nathan had anger issues and Maya and him were having relationship problems, but Nathan beating and raping her? I was in a state of shock. I never thought he would go as far as to beat and sexually assault her. I was about to call Dad when my phone went off again, this time it was Nathan's best friend Rodney.

Me & Rodney rarely spoke, but I knew him enough that we would have each other's number. I picked up after the third ring. "Hello?" I spoke first. "Yamir? It's me Rodney, you need to call y'all pops ASAP! Nathan just got arrested!" "WHAT?! Is it about what happened to Maya?" I assumed.

"Y-yeah, you heard about that already?" He almost sounded disappointed that I was already told about the situation. "Yeah I did, I was about to call him before you called." "Yeah, Nate told me to call you to tell you what happened." he replied. "Don't worry, my dad will handle it. He will be pissed as hell, but he'll handle it.

"Alright then man, this whole situation is fucked up." "Yeah, yeah it is. Aight see you soon." I hung up. I was in MIT during my senior year studying biomedical engineering. I stepped outside to chill and smoke a black and mild as I called my father.

He was never fond of Nathan, probably because he's not his blood

He was never fond of Nathan, probably because he's not his blood. But he was still my brother, regardless of all the bullshit he partakes in.

"Hello?" he always spoke in a stern, yet monotone voice. "Dad, it's me Yamir." "My son, how are you doing? Are classes going ok?" he slightly enthused. "Y-yeah, classes are going alright dad. I didn't call because of school Dad." "Oh? What happened? Do you need anything son?" concern grew in his voice.

"It's not for me, it's for Nathan he needs help." I could hear the eyes roll through the phone with a frustrated sigh. "What the hell did he do this time?! I've already pulled more than enough strings for him to attend Stanford, did he fuck that up too?" He became increasingly angry.
