Chapter 1

Silence. Utter and complete silence that has been surrounding me for years. Engulfing me in. I leaned back into my leather chair that I was bored rotating around for the last five minutes in my office cabin where I was alone. It's already six and most of the staff has already left. Actually I am sure I am the only one still inside this building. It's a Saturday night after all. People have lives. Not everyone is as alone as I am. I put the pen down that I had been tapping on the glass table for so long.

"Fuck it. I am going to go out and have fun." I said to particularly no one. I stood up from the chair and straightened my short pencil skirt, grabbed my expensive Gucci bag and left the cabin.

As expected, the office was completely empty. Some loyal people I have working for me. Sighing I got inside the elevator and pressed the ground floor button. The elevator dinged open as I reached my destination. I stepped out, my high heels clicking against the tile floor.

"Jennifer, I will be leaving now. Can you call John for me?" I asked my receptionist. Jennifer has been working at 'The Smiths' for around twenty years. She joined after a few years my father started this business.

"Of-course Miss. Smith." She smiled politely at me and called my driver while I waited patiently.

A few minutes later John arrived. I mumbled a thank you to Jennifer and left the building.

"Miss Smith." John nodded at me, holding the car door open. I nodded in response and slid inside the car.

I relaxed in the back seat of my Audi, slipping my high heels off my feet and stretching them. These heels are such bitches. Well aren't you one Katherine Smith? At-least that's what your staff crew calls you. A heartless bitch. If only they knew. A crooked smile formed on my lips.

"Miss. Smith, we are here." John said holding the gate and waiting for me to get out of the car.

"Thank you John. You should go home. It's Sunday tomorrow after all." I said as I got out of the car, holding my sandals in my hand.

"Thank you Miss."

"Don't worry about it." I replied walking inside my apartment building. Not so much of a bitch after all.

Reaching inside my apartment, I threw my bag and sandals to the side and slouched on the couch closing my eyes.

A few minutes passed by without any movement. I got up from the couch and padded through the kitchen. I searched through the kitchen cabinets and took out a wine glass. Pouring myself a glass of red wine, I rummaged through the refrigerator looking for some food.

"Aahh. I need to go for some grocery shopping." I groaned finding the refrigerator completely empty.

Taking the glass with me to my bed room, I slipped out of my office clothes and hopped into the shower. I stood facing up the shower and the cold water droplets hit my face slowly cascading down my body. The knots in my body relaxed and I heaved a sigh of relief. The cold water surely does help. After washing my hair and body, I wrapped a towel around myself and got out of the shower. My fingers were pruned indicating I have been in the shower for longer than intended. I left my hair open for them to dry up naturally. I turned on the music and walked around my room sipping on my wine.

Taking out a black dress from my wardrobe, I put it on and did my makeup. I left my hair open and curled them from the bottom. Finally putting on a pair of black heels, I slipped my phone into a silver clutch bag. I stared at my reflection in the mirror. The dress was tight and hugged my body at all the right places. I have lost a few pounds over the past years but I still have some curves and the dress is highlighting them perfectly. Taking one last sip of the wine, I grabbed my clutch and walked downstairs. Locking the door after me, I left my apartment. To hell with everything. I am going to get drunk and enjoy the night.
