After ten years...

Sunday

I went to visit my mum again and found my older sister sat at her bedside, her fiancé next to her, both red faced and had bloodshot eyes. When I came in she got up and hugged me and Connor shook James's hand. We sat at my mums side and her eyelashes fluttered, Caitlin sat up and looked at me,

“Did you see that?" she asked me

I nodded, “she might be waking up" I said, a slight smile on my face,

   We waited for anymore movement and soon our mum was slowly waking up. When she did she looked at us and started crying. She looked at me then to Connor and back to me,

“Your courting?" she asked,

“Yes" I nodded, smiling,

“Good, where's your father? Is he ok?"

“He's..." Caitlin tried but she couldn't do it and looked at me,

I gulped and swallowed, “he's... gone" I mumbled as the tears began to fall.

   Mum looked at me and Caitlin then started crying, “no, he can't be, why are you lying? Don't lie to me"

It got too much and I ran out of the room, tears flooding down my face. I ran to the toilets and locked myself in a stall and just let the tears fall. The door soon opened and I heard footsteps,

“Beth?" it was Caitlin, I unlocked the door and walked out, she hugged me for what felt like forever,

“Is she ok?" I asked,

“A nurse has explained what happened to dad to her and she's obviously upset but James and Connor are calming her" she told me,

“Good" I smiled then we walked back and stayed with mum for a while longer before we left.

    We went back to mine and started planning the funeral, it was so hard. After we planned it Caitlin and James left, leaving me, Connor and Jimmy. I walked into the kitchen, fed him and came back with two cups of tea and gave one to Connor. He wrapped his arms around me, pulled me on to his lap and told me everything's going to be ok, over and over like he'd done for the past few days.
