Chapter 12: The End

      "Ah!" The man called. "Princess Rosalia at last."
      Rose felt that this man was familiar somehow but she couldn't think where.
       "Who are you?"
      "My, my! Have you forgotten your destiny? Our love?"
     "What?"
    "From the first moment I laid eyes on you, I knew you'd be my queen. Our love was legendary...Until the night I lost you forever." He seemed saddened at this. "But I never gave up trying to find you. I followed you all the way back here."
     "This doesn't make sense. I don't remember anything like that!"
     The man looked at her in a way that made her uncomfortable. "I know that you don't remember everything just yet. Just remember that you were loved by Karayan Blade. You were loved by me and I'll never stop fighting for you."
      A sudden realization came to Rose.  Karayan Blade. Nightmares of a man trying to take her. The words she'd spoken to Merlin that night. The curse. He's coming for me! And it finally hit her.
      "Liar!" She hissed.
      Karayan was caught off guard. "What was that, dearest?"
      "You're a liar! We were never in love! I remember the truth now."
      Karayan looked amused. "And, pray tell, what is the truth, love?"
      "You worked for my father as the court sorcerer. Somehow you got it in your mind that you would marry me and when my father denied your proposal, you sought revenge! You cursed us all, except me. No, you saved me so that when I grew up I'd be your queen."
      Karayan smirked. "Very good. Now, are you ready to do what your silly father would​ not and agree to be my queen?"
      "I will NEVER be your queen!"
      Karayan chuckled. "That's where you're wrong, princess, because I have my ways of making you mine. First off, you can agree to be my queen and we get married immediately. Or," he raised a finger. "Or you can deny me and I'll simply send you to the place I was trapped and I can use my magic to make you mine and bind you to me forever. Your call."
       "I'd rather die!"
      "Very well." At this, Karayan raised his hands to the Heavens, magic vial in hand, and boomed, "Mitteret ei qui se finxit!!"
       Suddenly, Rose found herself being pulled by an invisible force and she clung onto the bridge before she could fall in the water.
       "Intermissum!" Rose screamed as the bridge began to break beneath her. "SAVE YOUR PRAYERS, LOVE! NO ONE CAN SAVE YOU!!"
       Suddenly, Merlin appeared, back in his old clothes, shouting, "Wanna bet?" He punched Karayan in the face then raced to save his princess.
       "Merlin! You're here! Look, I'm sorry about what I said. I didn't mean it. I-"
       "I think that can wait till later, love."
       He helped her to her feet as Karayan got back to his. "No! You will not take what's rightfully mine this time, boy!!" Raising his voice, Karayan boomed, "Ignis!" A wall of fire dissended upon them.
      Merlin stood straight up and boomed back, "Extinctus!" The fire disappeared.
      "Umbra!" Now the smoke attacked them.
      "Draco!" It changed shape, attacking Karayan.
      "Praemium!"
      The bridge exploded, sending the lovers flying. Karayan cackled in triumph.
       Now it was Rose's turn. "Ne nobis noceant inimici!"
       Merlin looked at the woman he so admired. "Great job, Rose. Now his spells have no effect on us."
        "THATS WHAT YOU THINK!!" Karayan yelled. "Separat amicos!"
       Merlin and Rose were thrown from each other's arms. Karayan waved a hand. "Sed satellites regii meus venire!"
        Suddenly, a number of creatures appeared before Karayan,including Seth in wolf form. At this, Karayan pointed to Merlin and boomed, "Occidere eum!"
        The creatures headed in Merlin's direction as he desperately tried to ward them off with spells and calling on Nyx for help. Unfortunately, due to Karayan's spell, Rose could not rush to his aid but she had her own problems.
      With Merlin occupied, Karayan took his time returning to his soon-to-be queen.
      "Last chance. Be mine as you were meant to."
      "Never!" Rose called Lyall and Seth to her side and they both attacked the evil sorcerer. With him distracted, she could do what she needed to. "Da mihi potestatem fontem ejus!"
       Karayan noticed when the source of his power appeared in Rose's hand. "My queen, give that back."
       "No! You deserve to pay for everything you've done! And now you will!"
       Meanwhile, Merlin had been knocked unconscious. Rose, seeing this, shed a tear. "This will be the vengeance for your curse! My family! Merlin! And countless other lives you've ruined!"
      "Don't do it!"
      "Goodbye, Karayan!" Taking a deep breath, she cried out, "Perdere!!"
With that, the glass vial burst into pieces. As it did, Karayan let out a scream of anger and pain as he suddenly exploded violently.
       Rose ran over to Merlin. Her slightest touch woke him automatically. He sat up and gazed deep into her eyes.
      "Rose."
      Her eyes were full of tears. "You came back for me."
      "Of course I did! I love you!"
      "After everything? You still love me? You didn't even take the reward!"
      "I didn't want it. I guess I found something more important to me."
     They leaned in to kiss when Nyx interrupted. "I'm sorry to break this up but, Rose, you have to go back to the ball. People are expecting you."
      "She's right." Merlin agreed. "You have a duty to take care if the world. Unfortunately, I can't share you with the world."
       Rose shook her head. "Then the world be damned! I finally know what I want and it's not ball gowns or fancy parties. It's you, Merlin. I want you! Even if we have to elope together."
        Nyx was smiling. "Well, you've made your decision. I shall see to it that your aunt gets your message."
       "Tell her that I'm sorry and I love her but I finally know what I want."
      "I will " she promised as she transformed to her dragon ​form and flew away.

       Later that night, Regina received the message as it was relayed to her and Ingrid. Ingrid burst out crying at how beautiful an ending it was. Regina simply smiled, happy that her niece finally had her happily ever after.

       Rose and Merlin had boarded a ship to leave Haven. They had no clue where they were going. They were only happy to be together.
       As they shared one last dance, it was like sign of their fate together. No matter what, they would be together and love another till the end of time.
