'Never get too comfortable with anything. Life has a way of taking things away when you get comfortable. Why do I say this? There are three reasons. First, Trey moved to Nevada. His mother got another job in Las Vegas. Second, my parents got sick so here I am living with Corona and her fiancé in San Francisco. Third, school.

I was comfortable with my old school. I finally had a friend there. When he got taken away, I hit rock bottom. I wasn't eating or sleeping. My parents getting sick definitely didn't help. Now I have to start over at an entirely new school. People will have expectations of me and I know I won't live up to them.'

"James?" Corona knocks on my bedroom door. My room here is nicer than the one in Atlanta, but it's different. I wasn't ready for this. I couldn't get what I wanted from my old house, so I may as well have nothing.

"Yeah?" I open the door before tidying up my room.

"Are you ready for school tomorrow?" Corona sat on my bed.

"I'm not ready." I admit, sitting next to her. "Nobody knows me and my issues, so they'll expect me to be like them. They won't like me when they see how different I am."

"Don't show them your 'issues' then. It's a blank slate, you can act however you want. Like you said, they don't know you. You don't need to worry so much." Corona nudges my shoulder. "Just do one thing for me."

"What is it?" I ask.

"Talk to someone. Anyone. Try to talk to them first. You'll be surprised how much people will like you if you talk to them first." Corona stands up. "I'll call for you when dinner's ready."

"Thank you." I lay back onto the bed, sighing when the door clicks shut. I reach over, grabbing my notebook and starting to write.

'This will be a crazy adventure, I feel it already. New place, new school, and new people. Maybe it won't be too difficult but maybe it'll be worse than Atlanta was. I wish Mom would answer the phone, I need to make sure she's okay. Corona and Ryland are trying to make me feel at home, but this isn't my home. Not yet, anyways. I just moved her last week and now I have to start school tomorrow. Corona asked me to talk to someone but why should I? The less attention I get, the better. I plan to move back to Atlanta after the school year so I don't want to make any friends. Either I'll lose them or they'll lose me, which I doubt they'd mind.'

"Jameson! Dinner!" Corona yells.

"Coming!" I close my notebook and put it under my pillow. I go downstairs and walk to the dining room. "What's for dinner?"

"Spaghetti." Ryland answers, handing me a plate.

"Thanks." I sit at the table and begin to eat. Things are starting to feel just the tiniest bit comfortable. Please life, give me a chance. I'll try not to let you down.

"Here we are, Westwood High School." Corona pulls up at the school. "You have everything?"

"I have everything. I just need to find the office to get my schedule." I grab my backpack, putting it on.

"The office is right through the doors to the left. It's the first thing you'll see. Just smile, talk clearly, and no worries." Corona hugs me and I hug back. "I'll pick you up after school. Tomorrow you can drive yourself, right?"

"Right." I open the door, getting out. "Wish me luck."

"Good luck, little bro. You'll do great." Corona waves as she drives off. I take a deep breath and walk into the double doors. I go into the office.
