Pain is inevitable.
It captures the strong, and damages the weak.
For Ruby Byrd, pain was always bound to happen. Making her a mystery for those around her...
The sound of laughter echoed across the packed streets of Las Vegas.
It was a Friday night, and the whole city seemed to be awake.
Ruby Byrd slowly made her way down the sidewalk, the corners of her lips curling into a mischievous smirk as she she came across a club.
BEEP
She jumped slightly at the sudden vibration. Her hands patted down her clothes until she felt the familiar rectangle that was her phone.
J: Meet me in the bar.
J: I can see you.
Ruby bit her lip slightly before looking at the bright lights on the club. A perilous smile appeared on her pale face within seconds.
She began to move closer towards the door as the sound of music and giggles got louder, and the smell of alcohol getting stronger.
Harshly, a man pushed his arm right into Ruby's stomach, nearly knocking the air out of her.
"Mm. Where do you think you're going, young lady?" A man cleared his throat while his lips began to curl into a tight frown on his freshly shaven face.
Her eyes slowly traveled up to look at his piercing blue eyes. His six foot frame towered the five foot five girl.
She smirked at the man before inspecting him. "Inside? Where does it look like i'm going?" He wore a bright name tag that glistened with the street lights.
TREY TIN
The man awkwardly turned as he fixed the small color on his tight black T-shirt.
"ID then?" He blankly blurted at her, propping an eyebrow.
Ruby then reached into the pocket of her green jacket, feeling around for the small item. Where is it? Hertongue looped against her lip as she continued to twist and turn her hand into the pocket. Finally, a plastic rectangle scraped against her palm. A smile grew as she pulled out the fake ID before pushing it into the mans face.
He harshly grabbed the girl's arm tightly, looking at the ID with a glare.
"Now, Now young man. It's not nice to grab a female that way. Especially since she's a customer,"She slyly winked at the man before entering, earning her a rough growl. Ruby safely tucked in the card back into her pocket as she pushed open the door.
Men and their pride. She thought to herself.
Music banged against the speakers loudly, only getting louder as she moved closer to the bar itself.
The phone began to shake violently under her grasp.
JS INCOMING CALL
[ACCEPT] [DECLINE]
Bringing the phone close to her face, she began to softly speak into the device.
"H-hello? Johnson? Is this you?" She spoke awaiting a reply.
A strong voice began to speak, "Of course it is Byrd. Who else would it be under my number?" the voice sighed loudly before murmuring, "You're so stupid sometimes," Ruby rolled her eyes at the statement. "Anyway, come to the bar. I've got a seat open right next to me," The call then ended as Ruby brought her phone back down.
She began to make her way towards the seats on the other side of the club.
"Woo mama, come dance with me, sweet cheeks," Someone whistled from the crowd. Ruby chuckled silently before she flipped him off, following with a bright smile to the man.
"Come sit with us, honey bun," She turned around to see more men staring hungrily at her. Ruby crinkled her nose in disgust as she looked back to the seats.
"Bye," She hissed before continuing to walk away.
She then noticed a figure with a black hoodie, sipping on a big glass of beer. Is that Johnson? I'm pretty sure that it is.
Her thoughts were then cut when her phone began to ring again.
JULIA -.- INCOMING CALL
[ACCEPT][DECLINE]
She looked down at the phone to see who was calling. Ruby's slight smile soon turned into a deep frown before her finger made it's way towards the button.
JULIA -.- INCOMING CALL
[ACCEPT][DECLINE]
"Forget her," Ruby whispered as she tucked her phone away, then walking towards the figure. She smiled slightly at her old friend, "Johnson! How ya been?"
But that night would change everything, and that was only the start.
