PIPER MCLEAN NEVER LIKED BEING UNDERESTIMATED by people, much less being pitied on. She glanced at the redhead who was at the front, directing the other members to do specific tasks.

Blair Hayes was never fond of Piper, and she felt the exact same way about the redheaded witch. The two teenage girls had set each other as rivals at the beginning of their first drama club meeting, in which Blair gave Piper a look of disapproval and was convinced that she couldn't exactly do anything that was important. Piper then (and still), having a bold personality, "accidentally" spilled paint all over Blair's head while setting up the props. And from that day on, they knew that getting along was not an option.

Piper scoffed at the script written by Blair. The plot was cliché and lacked excitement. It was about a girl who was supposedly academically smart falling for the "bad boy" who "never loved" anyone. And Jesus Christ, it sounded like the twenty million books from Wattpad. Only hers was badly written. If only she had been given the chance to take in charge instead of Blair, then the drama club wouldn't be looked down on that much.

She felt a hand tap her shoulder. She turned to see Raymond, one of the only members of the drama club who actually had great standards in the performing arts. The fact that he was also deaf made everything a lot more easier and tolerable for Piper.

'Well, if you're finally done eye-raping her, can we go and eat lunch now?" he signed. 'Reading the cheap ass plotline has made me want to end my life, but I can't exactly kill myself on an empty stomach.'

Piper smiled and rolled her eyes at her friend. She gestured for him to come along, and the two went off to the cafeteria.

'I can't wait for summer. I have been away from the internet and my Superwholock marathons for so long.' Piper's best friend, Annabeth signed in distress.

'Geez. There's only like one week left of school.' Piper replied. 'You can survive a few more days.'

'Oh, by the way, are you still on being a camp counselor at that summer camp you go to?'

'Of course, as long as Drew Tanaka is still breathing, I'll never step down. Lord knows what she'll do.'

Annabeth laughed. God, how Piper loved making her laugh. Her best friend had been through so much in her life and to see her laughing was pure bliss. It was indeed a shame that she couldn't hear it. Piper imagined Annabeth's laugh to be like candy—sweet and comforting.

Raymond, who was just munching on an apple, was already sound asleep with his head on the table beside her. Piper snorted at the dark-haired boy's fatigue.

'I swear he could fall asleep just floating in the middle of the ocean, even with sharks surrounding him.' Piper retorted.

Annabeth looked at Raymond. 'Well, he is Raymond. We shouldn't even be surprised by now.'

Jason Grace was hiding inside his bedroom. He had another dream about his mother. He didn't know if that evil witch was still somehow alive, and he had felt no desire to try and find out. The woman had left a mark on him. A mark that had already ruined him. He was on the edge of a cliff, an inch away from falling into the depths of insanity. The air he was breathing was poisoned with anxiety and paranoia, and he was facing it all alone with no one to turn to.

Yes, he had his sister Thalia with him, and he was very thankful to have a sister as great as her, but he didn't want to put any more weight on her shoulders.

Ever since Thalia ran away from their mother and found him in one of the alleys, Thalia was the one who did everything for the sake that they were both alive. Even during the years they were with their mother, Thalia was basically the one who raised him.

Thanks to her friend Luke Castellan and his family, the siblings have managed to continue their education and lived somewhat...normal lives living with the Castellans.

When Thalia turned eighteen, she rented an apartment for them both and worked during the day to be able to pay their monthly rent and buy their daily needs. Even when she wasn't satisfied with her job, she still managed to smile and be the badass sister Jason always looked up to.

The good thing was, Jason had grown up to have a great personality oozing with confidence and skill that had attracted most of the population at his school, no matter female, male or non-binary. He was considered fearless and straightforward, being the school's football captain. But boy, oh how were they wrong.

Despite growing up happily, it seemed that nothing can stop him from being haunted by his past—by his mother. Beryl Grace was not only an alcoholic and a shitty mother, but she was quite abusive.

Jason shuddered. He didn't to recount the times he spent with his mother. It had been all too traumatizing and it broke him mentally and psychologically.

He heard a knock on his door. "Jason, are you okay in there?" his sister asked from the other side. "I haven't heard anything from you in the past hour. It feels really alien."

"Y-yeah—I'm fine." Jason shouted. "I was just studying."

"Studying? You sure that's you in there?"

Jason wiped his tears with his hands. "Haha, very funny. Now can you please just go? I'm trying to concentrate."

On the other side of the door, Thalia chuckled. "Yeah, sure. Continue 'studying'."

Shaking her head, Thalia walked to the living room and collapsed on the couch. She turned on the TV and started scrolling through her phone. Her eyes landed on a specific picture that gave her an all too familiar feeling of butterflies and sharp objects.

She sighed. It had been so long since she had seen Luke and it was getting harder to move on. She didn't have that many friends growing up and Luke was the only one who actually took interest in her. And there's also the fact that he convinced her to leave her mother behind and to stay with them. Naturally, anyone in that situation would develop feelings for the boy.

Thalia stood up and went to the fridge to get food. Seeing that it was empty, she let out a curse and went out to buy groceries, forgetting to turn off the TV.
