Focused on work as he was, Bobby hardly registered the small bark from behind him, it wasn't until there was loud crash mixed with a yelp that he sighed heavily, throwing down the spanner in his hand.

The barking continued now and he rounded some of the cars to find the large pup barking at a pile of knocked over parts, bits and pieces now everywhere.

"Lily," He groaned and the pup looked at him, her tail wagging. "What have I told you about coming out here? It's dangerous."

You chuckled from behind him, making him turn, casting you an exasperated look. "I did warn you that she was a mischief maker and very curious."

"Yeah, and I told you that I didn't want a dog around." Bobby grumbled as Lily bolts past him straight to you.

You pick her up, which no easy task, as a Burmese Mountain Dog, even as a pup, she wasn't exactly small. "Just admit it Bobby, she's worked her way into that heart of yours. You wouldn't know what to do without her now."

Bobby didn't want to admit you were right, he'd been so adamant about not getting a dog, and yet, as soon as you rocked up with the giant black ball of fluff, he didn't exactly turn around and say no.

Lily's tail wagged excitedly as he comes over, scratching the top of her head, even as she tried to lick his fingers. "She's got to learn to stay out of the yard, especially when I'm working as I can't keep an eye on her."

"Like that's going to happen." You smiled at him. "She's enjoys your company and you hardly complain when she follows you around the house."

"That's different," He looks at you. "I know what she's getting into there and I can stop her before she gets hurt."

Lily barks and squirms in your arms until you put her down and she starts almost instantly running circles around the two of you.

You shake your head. "You are unbelievable."

"What?" He asked.

You fold your arms, still smiling. "Always playing the tough guy, even around a puppy." You pat his cheek affectionately. "How about I go feed her? Might get her more settled for you."

Calling for her, Lily quickly follows you, Bobby watching the both of you go, rubbing his neck before he lets out a heavy sigh. "Idjit."

He couldn't tell you how he felt, he knew that, both being hunters, it would cause too many issues and too many threats, in fact, he'd tried to brush you off many times, not wanting to get himself too involved, but it never stopped you.

You'd brought him Lily.

You insisted it was for company, that he spent too much time on his own these days, and having a dog would be good for him.

The truth was, and it hadn't taken him much to work out, was that you wanted to come around more often and Lily was a great excuse.

Lily loved seeing you, always bounding up to you as soon as she heard your car pull up, and he never had any doubt of when you here because she would cry and whine excitedly if locked inside.

You'd always been the one to name her, after his sheer stubbornness in not wanting to do so, insisting that 'dog' was fine. You may have gone a bit extreme and called it animal cruelty, but it had got the reaction you wanted, him giving up and telling you to name her.

And now Lily was a constant part of his life.

He couldn't tell you that he was glad to have her around, that she seemed to know if he needed cheering up or not, and he certainly was never going to admit that he let her sleep on the end his bed now.
