I'm trying to write a witty poem
but here I sit, staring at a blank page
amongst the noisiness of the zoo
amongst the animals in their cage
and I can't think of anything to write about
because for once I'm at a loss
and the noise is building up
which in turn is making me rather cross
What to write about? What to discuss?
These rhymes are shooting across my brain
but how to put them in the correct order?
Where to direct this thinking train?
The monkeys are yelling to eachother
and the tropical birds relentlessly squawk
and though I'm not completely positive
I think they're trying to talk
and so it reaches the point in which
I'm writing a poem about poem writing
so this exercise was rather pointless,
not to mention unexciting.
The moral of this story?
Don't let poetry ideas loom
inside your head when sat amongst teenagers
in a stuffy and tiresome maths room.
